Wow. I'm barely on here anymore. I think the last nail in the coffin was the clickthrough ads that never load when you try to comment on people's journals.
Anyways.
The Better Bottle Experiment seems to be going well. I picked up a 6-gal better bottle plastic fermenter last weekend to try out on the Ecto Cooler Wit. It was much easier to use than the glass carboy at a third of the price.
Batch #2 of the Robohop IPA should get kegged tonight. I gave it a few more days in primary than #1 got, but that was largely due to a dentist visit (can't taste the beer if your mouth is alternately numb/owie). The big change in this batch will be the switch to Northern Brewer as bittering (plays nicer with the Cascade) hops. Of course, I was dumb and did not save a bottle of #1 so I'll have nothing to compare it too. Given that #2 is destined for a wedding, I doubt I'll have any left overs here, either.
There's a Mefi Homebrew swap coming up on 6/1 and I hope that the Wit will be palatable by then. I have little experience working with zesting anything, let alone tangerines, so who knows. I still need a better name for it.
As a backup, I have vague plans for Black Steam lager. Basically, it'll be a simple Pilsner extract beer with a touch of crystal made DARK AS MY SOUL with excessive application of Carafa III. My hops standbys of Northern Brewer and Cascade make a comeback, but nowhere near as much as ends up in the IPA (7-8oz, if you count the hop plugs).
I wonder if I'll have time to brew this weekend?
