the end-o-year 2008 meme

Dec 23, 2008 09:35

As seen everywhere.

1. Was 2008 a good year for you?
OMG No! Make it stop!!

2. What was your favorite moment of the year?
Election night. Coming home from an election party, thinking it will take all night, the results will be contested, and we won't know at least till morning anyway - and as soon as I walk in the door I see Obama is president! I hooted and danced with my dog for a bit.

3. What was your least favorite moment of the year?
Probably the whole divorce thing.

4. What are your plans for 2009?
I actually do have a plan. I'm going to start taking the light rail train to work in March, which will force me to walk/exercise more. And I'm going to eat healthier, which I already started. Also I think I'll make a hat.

5. What countries did you visit?
I not only didn't visit any other countries this year, I didn't take a vacation of any kind.

6. What date in 2008 will remain etched in your memory?
Again, election night.

7. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting back in stride at work after my health issues.

8. What was your biggest failure?
Dating?

9. Did you suffer any illness or injury?
Yes! The year started while I was still suffering full-blown celiac disease symptoms, but remained undiagnosed. I kind of had to figure it out myself, with some help from my mother, before finally finding a couple doctors that could find their asses. Recovery was dramatic in some ways, slow in others. The slowest part is bouncing back psychologically after such a major lifestyle change (the diet), and learning how to eat a balanced diet with the new restrictions.

10. What was the best thing you bought?
Probably music. I got a lot of CDs this year. And this is why I should probably have an ipod.

11. Who's behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
My ex. Wow, that was easy.

12. Where did most of your money go?
Rent, car payments, car insurance (still high from the accident I had last year), food.

13. What did you get really really really excited about?
Finally having my divorce final - what a relief! Also kind of a sad thing to be excited about, like escaping from kidnappers or something.

14. What songs will always remind you of 2008?
I think Lily Allen's 'Smile' and Elbow's 'Grounds for Divorce'.

15. Compared to this time last year are you:

a) Happier or sadder? Happier

b) Richer or poorer? Richer

16. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Socializing maybe?

17. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Eating stuff that's bad for me. I don't know, maybe it was just a mourning period for what I couldn't eat anymore.

18. How will you be spending Christmas?
Actually I just found out yesterday that I'm hosting it.

19. Which LJ users did you meet for the first time?
Well.. I met epiphanyrun but that didn't work out so well.

20. Did you fall in love in 2008?
No.

21. How many one night stands?
None.

22. What was your favourite TV show?
Maybe True Blood. Or Keith Olbermann, but I was late to that party.

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No. Probably hate less in general.

24. What was/were the best books you read?
'A Woman Like That' was really good.

25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I guess everything I'm listening to right now.

26. What did you want and get?
Various DVDs and CDs, stuff I could afford to buy, new crocheting skills.

27. What did you want and not get?
A new TV, digital cable, some romance, better coffee at the office.

28. What was your favourite film this year?
Didn't see a lot of movies in the theater this year - ok hardly any - so I'll have to go with 'Religulous'.

29. What did you do on your birthday and how old were you?
I was 33. Some friends took me out drinking at an Irish pub, and it was fabulous.

30. What one thing would have made your year more satisfying?
Either losing more weight or having a fling with someone.

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
A work in progress.

32. What kept you sane?
My dog.

33. Which celebrity did you fancy the most?
Nobody especially.

34. Which political issue stirred you the most?
The election, and gay rights.

35. Who did you miss?
Old friends.

36. Did you treat somebody badly in 2008?
I feel like I've neglected my pet snake. But I'm not sure if he cares.

37. Did somebody treat you badly in 2008?
Yes, a few.

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned this year?
I learned how to look myself in the eye and to embrace who I am. Now I know why so much of my life felt like sleepwalking.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year...
KT Tunstall:
Hold on to what you been given lately
Hold on to what you know you got
Hold on to what you been given lately
Hold on
Cause the world will turn if you're ready or not

This song will also remind me of 2008, because I found it inspiring, and remember hearing it come on the radio at what seemed like the most uncanny moments.
