A Good Day to Die Hard

Welcome to Russia, here's your machinegun.

Seriously, if you follow the movie's logic, caches of armaments are /everywhere/.
Now, on the other hand, the movie's internal logic is very consistent. Partially helped by replacing all points of 'plot' with 'more action'. To their credit, they do sell their single plot twist pretty well. Other than said plot twist and a thin connecting narrative between chase scenes, shooting scenes and glass breaking scenes, this is not so much an action movie as an ACTION movie scene played out on the big screen.

And you know, if that's what you're going for, it does it pretty well. Its mildly more realistic than the third one, and the characters have precisely enough chemistry to sell what they need to if you've already accepted the ACTION part of all this. And really, that's the key to whether you'll like this movie or not.

If you want total popcorn fest with pretty good choreography, lots of machineguns, and every single character having an absolute thing against unbroken glass (seriously - if there's a window, they want to paint it full of bullets.) - good, this is perfectly worth the two hours. The movie certainly doesn't try to be anything its not, nor apologize for it. Its the sort of movie that will probably get terrible critic ratings, but pretty good reviews from fans. It also makes the first one feel like a slow paced drama. Partially simply in the fact that now they have a second character to hand machineguns to, and have fall off of things and jump through windows, and make ample use of it.

As a pure action fest and nothing else, solid B. If that's what you're looking for, well... welcome to Russia, here's your popcorn and machinegun.
