From
tempertemper... because, you know, I don't have work to be doing or anything. Comment with "UNICORNS" if you want to play, and I'll pick 5 of your icons for you to talk about.
This one came from Sarah Rees Brennan (
sarahtales), an author I love who I've been following on here since before she became a published author. I guess she and I are both purists when it comes to our Jane Austen... the Keira Knightley movie had its moments, but it just can't compare to the BBC standard. :D
This was made by
a_lot_of_heart. I adore Brennan and love how totally confident she is in her own intelligence, but in regards to myself, I'm far more likely to use this one sarcastically. Also, Emily is pretty.
This one's from
souncanadian. Like many of my icons, it features the lovely Paul Gross. The image is from my favourite episode of Due South, which combines Hamlet references and hilarious meta (in which he deliberately gets himself checked into a mental institution by very matter-of-factly listing the things that have happened to him). He's a character who's outwardly incredible stable and sure of himself, and very rarely do you get to see the human inside. Plus, the text is appropriate for me... off of LJ, I am typically quiet and reserved and it takes people a long time to notice the crazy. :D
Icon by
satinlie, from the LJ community for my all-time favourite TV show, Slings and Arrows. Perhaps not coincidentally, the whole show in this case combines two of my loves: Shakespeare/theatre and Paul Gross. That phrase gets thrown around a few times on the show, and it's a common feeling when you're a PhD student. Of course, this character is actually at his most brilliant when he's slightly mentally unstable (or in his words, "My reason may very well be hanging by a thread. But it is my belief that the best things happen just before the thread snaps.")
And we're back to Sarah Rees Brennan. Icon by
joel_le, via the marmalade fish community. This has no personal meaning except that it's one of my favourite quotes from her books. Upsetting tropes is one of her favourite things to do, so of course she has her "hero" watching the girl he loves sleep, and then mocking the idea that this is a romantic activity.
