I like the "News Feed" that Facebook has up now. I've never been one that can "spend hours on Facebook" before. It's stupid to spend any amount of time like that on Facebook or MySpace or anything else unless something is really going on. It's insane that I have to spend 10 minutes looking for that one thing that someone changed on their profile that makes Facebook go, "Profile updated 31 minutes ago." Now, I can go to my homepage, look at everything that everyone has changed, and be off in 15 minutes. Bravo, Facebook.
Facebook has put itself into a position to distance itself from everyone else in the field. The users are verified. You have a blogspot. Unlimited pictures can be uploaded. All profiles (as far as design) are the same, meaning it's easy to find the same thing on the different pages (one reason why I spend as little time as possible on MySpace...everyone has to do their own little thing to be different...change isn't always good, people). Groups are easier to manage. Election campaigns are now on...they're doing things right by listening to the input of their users, trying things out, and changing things that need to be changed.
A friend mentioned that they don't like the News Feed because it "displays everything to everybody." Facebook did the same thing before...it's just that you had to look a little harder to get the information. Facebook is an open network---if you don't want people to know your thoughts, what you think, etc., then don't post it.
