C6D Valentine's Day Card Sign Up Post

Dec 29, 2011 09:59

It's time for the fourth almost annual C6DVD cardathon! This event is a special kind of ficathon where participants send each other in-character Valentine's Day cards. In other words, instead of sending a third-person story about a character, you're actually sending a card from one character to another. Valentine's Day is for lovers, so requests can be either het-oriented or slash-oriented, but not gen.

All fandoms that fall under the Canadian Six Degrees umbrella are eligible. These include any fandom which has a tag on the c6d_universe sidebar or which appears in this list. You may request any character in these shows. RPF is allowed. Crossovers are allowed, but at least one of your requests must not be a crossover.

Yes, this involves giving out your mailing address (and possibly your name, if you need that to be on your mail to receive it). Nobody will see it except for me, and (unless you request otherwise; see below under "Privacy considerations") the person who is assigned to write your card. I swear that I am not a weird crazy stalker. References available on request. :-)

Calendar:

The official schedule is:
Signups: Thursday, Dec 29 - Tuesday, Jan 3
Assignments sent: Friday, Jan 6
Cards must be sent by: Wednesday, Feb 1
Master list and optional reveal will be posted: Tuesday, February 14

Details:

You may request from one to four pairings/threesomes. They can be all from one fandom, or from multiple fandoms, and at least one must not be a crossover. You may request any characters in these fandoms, but please only request what you genuinely want to read - this isn't a game of "stump the writer." You are only required to send one card no matter how many requests your recipient has made, but you are welcome to send as many as you like. You must offer to write at least one set of characters in one fandom, but the more you offer, the easier it will be to match you. If you request or offer "anything", I will take you at your word! I will try to match first on the smaller fandoms and on the crossovers.

You can either use a commercial card (Valentine's Day or otherwise), or make your own. If you make your own card, there is no wordcount requirement. If you use a commercial card, you must write (or rather, the character must write! "You" will be anonymous!) a message of at least 100 words in your card.

When you receive your assignment, you may only match on a single pairing or fandom, but I will try to maximize options for most people. It's your choice which pairing to use, and which character is the sender. For example, if your assignment is RayK/Stella, you can either write a card from Ray to Stella, or from Stella to Ray. (Or both, if you want!) You don't have to write a drippy romantic card. (I mean, is Joe going to send hearts and flowers to Billy, or just a scrawled, "Be my fucking valentine!"?)

You are encouraged to scan, photograph, or transcribe the card you receive and post it in your journal at any time after you get it, but you don't have to. You may 'fess up to the card you sent, or post its image or text if you like, but not until on or after Valentine's Day, February 14th. You are also welcome to remain anonymous!

How to sign up:

To sign up, send email to me at mizface@comcast.net with C6DVD in the subject line. Please use the following template. (Don't worry about the boldface, which I'm just using for clarity.)

Journal name: If you have an LJ, give your username. If you prefer another service such as Dreamwidth, IJ, or JF, give your username and indicate the service in parentheses. If you don't have any journal, just write 'none'.
Mailing address: Where to send the card, including your name or pseud if necessary.
I'd like: 1-4 requests, in the format: Fandom: Character A/Character B. Please be as clear as possible, as your mod isn't actually familiar with all the eligible fandoms. A single request can be A/B, A/B/C, A/(any of B, C, D, E, or F, which may be in the same fandom or crossovers), A/anybody (assumed to be in the same fandom).
I'll write: All fandoms you're willing to write, with pairing and character limitations. Please be generous, as it will make matching easier. It's only 100 words!
Special considerations: Let me know if you have any special issues. These include: if you're not willing to send a card internationally; if you don't want certain themes; if you don't want to be assigned a particular person (say, your roommate, or someone you wrote for in the last challenge); if you have privacy issues, and if so, how you want to handle them (more on this below). Basically, anything you think the mod and/or your recipient needs to know.

Here's an example:

Journal name: mizface (LJ/DW)
Mailing address: miz, 333 My Real Street, City, Indiana 46254
I'd like: due South: RayK/(Maggie, Fraser, or RayV), RPF: Callum/Hugh, Slings and Arrows/due South: Richard/Thatcher, Harper's Island: Henry/Abby (Modly side note - wouldn’t seeing the cards Henry DIDN’T send Abby be amazing? *grabbyhands*)
I'll write: due South: any combination of RayK, RayV, Fraser; Turnbull/Frannie, Welsh/Frannie, RayV/Stella, Maggie/Frannie
Slings and Arrows: Geoffrey/Ellen, Anna/Nahum, Anna/Richard, Darren/Geoffrey
RPF: Any combination of Hugh, Callum, Molly
Wilby Wonderful: Buddy/Carol, Buddy/Sandra, Duck/Dan
Gunless: Sean/Ben
Harper’s Island: Cal/Chloe, Henry/Trish
Crossovers: between any of the fandoms I list. Especially Emily (WW)/Chloe (HI) and Buddy/Frannie!
Special considerations: I don't want any explicit smut. I won't write explicit... well, anything, probably.

I will send you an ack as soon as I receive your sign-up. If you don't get one, please comment here so we can figure out which of us has the overactive spam-trapper, and make sure we're on each other's whitelist.

I do all matching by hand, partly based on what I think would be cool, so don't be afraid to be as detailed as you like in your requests and offers. I may email you during the matching period to ask if you'd be willing to write specific things, since C6D is a many-tentacled beast.

Privacy considerations:

If you don't feel comfortable giving your address and possibly name to an anonymous participant, there are two options. One is to furnish me with a list of participants (or possible participants, since sign-ups are not public) who you don't mind knowing your information; I will assign you to someone from that list. The other is to use my address as a drop: I will instruct your sender to send me your card, and I will put it in a large manila envelope and send it on to you. If you don't want to give me your address, you'll have to find someone else you trust to act as a drop for you.

You may find that you're sending a card to someone who knows you and will recognize the postmark. If so, I will happily remail cards; details on this will be in the instructions email that will go out with your assignment.

Modliness:

If you sign up, you are committing to participate. Anyone who drops out without notifying me will not be allowed to participate in any future cardathon I run. If you absolutely must drop out, email me as soon as possible. I will endeavor to find pinch-hitters for anyone affected by dropouts.

You do not need to friend me or join c6d_universe to participate, as the cardathon will be run by email. However, if you want to see announcements, just track the 'challenge: c6dvd' tag at c6d_universe. Feel free to post pointers to this post in your journals or in appropriate communities!

If something isn't clear and you want to ask a question, feel free to ask in a comment or by email. If it's a general question, please ask in a comment here, as others may want to know the answer, too!
