augustuscaesar, got your card, thanks! I think it probably arrived a while ago but I haven't checked the PO box for a couple of weeks. WHAT AN ADORABLE KITTY. I kind of still haven't posted yours though. :-( I'm terrible at snail mail. I will definitely try to do it today.

I have found a reason to support an AFL team for the first time in my life! I'll be going for the Brisbane Lions this season, albeit in a totally disinterested way that will not increase the amount of attention I pay to AFL, i.e., none whatsoever. My reasoning is that if Brisbane make the grand final, there will be a horde of rabid Queenslanders descending upon Melbourne for the final on September 29th, which happens to be the day after Melbourne Victory host Queensland Roar. I reckon quite a few Queenslanders will be in Melbourne a day early looking for something to do, and what could be better than supporting a Queensland team against some evil southerners, even if it's a totally different sport? So there will probably be a brilliant atmosphere at that game...which also happens to be a day before I'm due in Tasmania for the CANA Nationals. Needless to say, I will be stopping in Melbourne on the way. Good thing Mum and I have free accommodation there and will be flying on a group booking, because otherwise it would already be almost too late to be making arrangements.

I'm quite looking forward to the free accommodation, actually. We were talking about wanting to see the game on the way to Tassie at netball last week, worrying about affordable accommodation. We were overheard by a lady who said we could stay with her mum because she lives alone and likes company. Apparently she's 86 and likes tea, and her daughter keeps her supplied with a semi-regular stream of visitors looking for somewhere to crash in Melbourne. I like old ladies who like tea, so I'm sure it'll be lovely.

Thinking about it, this now means that the only capital city in which I don't have free accommodation is Darwin. Suits me fine, because I'm not terribly interested in going there anyway. Well, I also don't really have free accommodation in Hobart, but I have loads of family within easy driving distance thereof, so that counts. And yes, I know how shameful it is to confess to having lots of Tasmanian family. They're all on my mother's side though, and I take after my dad, so it's not as bad as it could be. Anyway, it's great when there's a netball tournament in Hobart because Grandpa meets us at the airport with a big fuckoff trailer and hauls our baggage for us. In return, the team managers give him the leftover food at the end of the week, rather than try to get it on a plane. Works out for everyone.

In other news, I joined an online NRL tipping competition, despite the fact that I not only know bugger all about rugby league, but also quite dislike it. I have guessed blindly for my tips each week. And yet, guess who's on top of the ladder after seven weeks? :-P Now that I've been publicly smug watch me get every single one wrong for this week....
