Drill

Well Drill was rather boring. Saterday we did nothing but dental crap and improvised classes. Oh, and lots of bullshitting. Went out to Dennys after with some of the Marines for some dinner, which was pretty cool.

Sunday was a different story.

We show up in pt gear to do some pt, of course. There was word of a short run and some basketball. Now, I'm not a great runner, in fact when i joined the unit I failed a pft (which is really bad btw). I've done better since, but still am not where I should be. When we started the run, i even heard the staff sergeant leading the run say it would just be a litte run.

Apparently, 6 miles is a "little" run. We had people falling out the whole way, maybe ten by about halfway. Now, pretty much everyone in my unit (myself included) would assume I would be in those ten. But I wasnt. I made it to the end. After halfway nobody else fell out. It felt great to do it. When we got done I wasnt sure how far we had gone. I overheard my name when the ncos were talking away from the rest. Apparently the Staff Sergeant was talking about me being a sucsess story, starting out shitty but turning it around. Got a lot of compliments on that. When the staff sergeant got back from seeing how far we ran, he asked me "Halverson, whatsthe farthest you've ran." I replied maybe four and a half. "Well not anymore, that was 6.3 miles." Crazy. Now I need to keep it up, keep working out, do some other things and get my ass promoted.
