The appeal for vampire for me back in the day .. well its kinda hard to explain...
Okay. Your a monster. Your a savage, bloodthirsty, cannabalistic monster that is either barely clinging to the few shreds of human emotion or characteristics they have left. At your best you might be able to pretend you can relate to the people you eat on a nightly basis, but really when it boils down to it the closest thing you can actually relate to and have any type of actual emotional connection with is other monsters just like you.
Is this easy to deal with? You gonna pal around with these guys like their your bowling buddies? Fuck no. You think that Alpha Predators in the wild get along buddy buddy? Watch a pack of wolves sometimes. Watch Tigers. Watch Lions. If they do hunt together, the minute the biggest one of them looks wounded they won't go out of their way to protect them or make them any safer.. hell half the time they'll tear you apart just for the extra meat.
The closest a vampire will come to having any other emotion worth keeping for good or ill will be from their own kind. Its why they stick together.
That being said, there is a lot more i could broach on the subject.
That's what *I* always thought. The suspension of disbelief required for you to accept that 20, 50, whatever, vampires all lived 'peacefully' in the same city was a HUGE stretch of the imagination. They should be trying to kill each other *all the time*, never mind the political backstabbing that was always played in the downtime...and sometimes at games. In fact, some of my favourite characters were the ones who were just nasty and underhanded. They screwed *everyone*.
I remember having a ST meeting where we were talking about what the actual ability of a city the size of the one we were setting the story in...what the ability of that city would be to sustain *one* vampire, never mind 60.
