Movin' on up... to the East side

...of the bay.

Andy was accepted to Berkeley, and we're moving to the East Bay! We just found a house to rent (after weeks of looking), which is too expensive, but nice and near our friends. It's in South Berkeley (almost in Oakland), which is not as near to the campus or the BART as we'd hoped, but Berkeley's not that big. It's going to be weird getting used to the everything's-five-minutes-by-car life again. I'm excited, though. I love San Francisco, but Berkeley is warmer and friendlier and still near the city. And I will have laundry in my house! Well, under my house. But physically connected to the structure in which I will live. And it's a house! The owner lives in a cottage in the back, but he seems like a pretty awesome guy. He's at least an awesome gardener and has an awesome dog, so hopefully he's awesome, too.

Our friends Peter & Juliet are getting married Sunday and we're leaving for England on Monday, so we get to postpone the actual packing & moving part. I'll be sad to leave our flat, even if we can hear everything the downstairs neighbor does. It's been a good home, although it spoiled us for square footage expectations. I probably won't miss being on the bus line, though. It interferes with HD-antenna reception, and I keep having to rewind movies to catch missed dialogue.

Oh, and California is out of money, and soon to be issuing IOUs. Possibly for student financial aid. And I got an email from SF State saying they were going to be cutting classes. I fear for the future of the dance department (and music and theater). If they cut all of our lecturers (teachers without tenure), it will gut the whole creative arts program. Not sure what that means for me personally, since I have all of my required classes, but it sucks for the school. All of the schools. Schwarzenegger is supporting the Republicans against increasing taxes, and instead just keeps chopping money out of the education system. We need a new governor.

After doing research on Arnold's education - he has at least two honorary doctorates for "charitable works". Can I get an honorary doctorate? Can I please? I've been in school for 89038383 years!

I don't believe Arnold has honorary doctorates.
