Video DVD WAV ?

I am beginning to think that the new hobby is going to get the elbow!
I started off with the video camera and found that it suffers from wind noise on the recording so I had an idea to get the waterproof head camera and it also it has a bad sound recorder? I thought that a simple sound recorder that I could edit the sound from would be the ticket? After getting a mini Dictaphone that records digitally  (.wav) I thought that this was going to be easy? I also got a microphone that was suggested by the shop assistant  (powered) and it all seems to look good? Firstly I found out that the microphone unplugs from its power supply and works still on the Dictaphone! But it needs the power for the camera and the power supply goes straight into the side of the camera and then the microphone plugs into that meaning the whole thing sticks out the side of the camera for about three inches!!! Well I run a test on the Dictaphone and found a programme on my PC that downloaded it BUT the video editing software shows NO sound on the recording?? The programme I used to download the sound plays the recording but nothing else does? And to top it all I wanted to make my videos into a DVD and that looks doubtful now? Think I might take up sky diving, at least when things start to go wrong you wont care for long :o)
