Never Forget

It wasn’t particularly planned to happen the way it did, it just unfolded the way things do when you’re drinking. There were laughs. There were tears. Above all there was each of us there for the other, the tight family we’ve become. It was a hard year, but we came to terms with it in our own way. We hugged, we laughed and we cried harder. Everyone ( Read more... )

He was a great kid and a good Soldier. Losing him hurt because he had so much potential in life. Before he went home on R&R in May, he wasn't sure if he wanted to stay Army or not. When he returned (a couple of weeks before the accident), he reenlisted because he couldn't stop thinking about his brothers in the platoon while he was home. Speaking for him at the memorial service we had for him in country was the most difficult thing I ever had to do as a company commander.
