Today was Linux User Group day again, so I set off for central Bristol. The actual meeting was well-attended as usual. I really shouldn't have, but I accepted the offer of a BBC Micro, Model B from one of the other LUG members. It's in rather good condition for a 25 year old machine:
Meanwhile, on the Arduino front, I have a working 40 column LCD:
Next thing to do is wire up the CD-ROM spinner and then prepare some slides for the talk that I've promised to give at
DorkSnow in London on February 7th/8th. After that, it'll be time to get ready for the
Tech Adventure event in Bristol on the 28th. I'm quite keen to come up with something a bit Steampunk for these events, maybe with some brass and slate accessories. Slate was, after all, used for some of the very early switchgear and fuse-boards. Other stone such as marble was used, too, for switchboards because it was a good insulator, rigid enough for the job, and unaffected by damp. But all I have so far is a few ideas and a couple of items of Victorian-style attire: a waistcoat and a tab-collared shirt.
