So I got this message on facebook from an old friend that I haven't seen in a couple years.
She commented on my short skirt in a picture from the last day in school, and I pointed out that it in fact was not exactly scandalously short.
Then I get this lecture about how I'm not supposed to cross into the dark world of fashion and what's "in."
Apparently the fact that I finally ended that awkward stage called puberty does not give me permission to wear eyeliner, choose nice-looking clothes, or care at all about my appearance. "Don't fit in too much, okay?" Anyone who knows me is very aware of the fact that it's impossible for me to just "fit in." It's not my personality. She should know this if she really believes all of the compliments she showered me with in an attempt to sugar-fy her condescending message of "hope for our generation."
Now hear this: if you choose to maintain a provincial and homely look, that's your choice, and I'll respect it. That means you have to respect my desire to put my best face forward, because, let's face it, people judge you for how you look, be it a job interview, a stop at the gas station, or an ordinary day at school.
So mind your own damn business, and stop assuming I'm a different person just because I wore a blazer and a skirt to school one day. Sorry I don't fit your mold of perfection, but I'm pretty damn happy just the way I am.
Man, uber-Christians wonder why everyone hates them...
