My mind seems to be unable to comprehend why a person would ever want to build a casino out in the desert, again, let alone hundreds of casinos. Las Vegas is an enigma in itself; the people, the casinos, the entertainment, the stores... all of it is just one big-bright-flashy-neon lighted-red plumaged hat-wearing-question mark to me. The vast Nevada landscape was monotonous through the drive, but the abrupt break from nature with the flashy lights and Elvises in Las Vegas supplied me with a superficial upper that would turn into a wtf later along the vacation. I bumped into a Elvis impersonator as i was walking down the strip, he was accurate even to the small beer belly that Elvis got later in his life. Its a pitty that this Elvis is stuck in the heat and far from Graceland.
I home now from vegas, and I'm recovering nicely.
My mom and grandmother are playing the newly learned game of checkers in the living room. I'm happy that my mother has company now, she's been lonely in the U.S. for quite some time now. My grandmother flew from Korea a few weeks ago, and living in California is a huge culture shock for her. I've had to adapt to make her feel more comfortable in our Irvine suburban home, but it's all worthwhile to hear the joy in my mother's broken english when she says,"king-uh me!"
