Sept. 15, 1989
"I will take Jun-chan with me. He is my son and will see to it that he is given proper care." Shu Sakurai said sternly at Jun's mother.
"No! My son will stay with me. I will not risk him being treated unkindly by your wife," Jun's mother held his hand tight and took a step away from Shu.
"I will not have my soon live in poverty. I can send him to the best schools in the country and he will live a very comfortable life, which is something that you cannot give on your own," Shu said.
Six year-old Jun watched his mother and father and silently cried. He wanted to be with his Mama and also with his Papa. His Papa was his idol and he wanted to live with him. He also met his onii-chan and his little sister in his Papa's house. Even Sakurai-Mama was kind to him. He had a great time there so he didn't understand what his mother meant.
“He’s my son! I want to take care of him until he grows up to be a proper man,” Jun’s mother said.
“He is also my son but I only get to see him only twice a week. I want to be a father to him make him feel how it is to be loved by his father and his brother and sister and provide for his daily needs!” Shu was adamant.
"Please, Shu," Jun's mother fell on her knees and bowed. "He's all that I have."
Shu blinked at Jun’s mother. His eyes softened at the gesture and sighed. "Ten years. I will take him back after 10 years. However, he will still stay in my house every weekend so that I can be a father to him and he can be close with his brother and sister."
Jun's mother cried in gratitude. "Thank you...Thank you, Shu."
Shu sighed. "Come here, Jun-chan."
Jun ran to his father and hugged him tight. "I'm sorry you cannot move to my house today, but I will see you again next week as what we always do. Take care of your Mama, okay? I will be away for a few days but will be back on Saturday. Be a good boy, okay?" He hugged little Jun and kissed his forehead.
"I'll wait for you, Papa. I promise to be good. Please tell Sho-niichan to bring me a Chuppa-Chups pineapple lollipop from Hawaii when you all come back," he hugged his Papa tight.
That evening, they were informed that Shu Sakurai died with the rest of his family.
