Volga Germans and Holiday Eatin's

Joan Obra, the Bee's Food section writer does a nifty piece about Volga German history and a holiday food from when I was younger - German Sausage.

When Ohlberg's had his own store (it was on Olive between First and Fresno), we'd get that for just about every celebratory occasion (weddings, christmas, etc.). It was -- along with my Grandmother's (on Dad's side) Lemon Merengue pies, and Couga - a kinda-dry German coffee cake -- that made childhood Christmas' events memorable.

I'll have to see about getting by Renna's to get some, maybe after the holidays for some Couga too.
