(Happy Birthday iceshade

It took a very impressive ten school days before Asgard contacted Laufey. Loki spent the entire time holed in his room, reading every book in the house before he turned to internet articles and his small collection of movies for entertainment. Anything to take his mind off the reason he was skipping school.

“This all was just as much for you as it was for me!” Laufey thundered, towering over Loki at the kitchen table, “why are you so intent on being trash?”

Forty-five minutes into a lecture about rising above their station and becoming better than they were and Loki's eyes were glazing over. Laufey was stupid if he thought these people would ever accept Jotuns wholeheartedly. Loki was just being realistic.

“You're going tomorrow if I have to drag you there and hold your hand.”

Loki grimaced at the thought. He'd wondered who gave his father that idea. It was an empty threat though, Laufey would never cause that much of a scene.

“Understood?”

Still, he didn't feel up to any other punishments than what he was already sure to get. “Yes,” he muttered.

“Yes what?”

“No.” Loki crossed his arms and settled in for another argument about 'respect' but Laufey only glared heatedly before he stormed away.

Loki blinked when his father's office door slammed shut, what an impressive display of restraint.

The next morning was agony. Loki hadn't realized the extent of his caffeine addiction until his daily fix was cut off.

He refused to chance running into Darcy (still didn't trust that she was completely blameless in the picture incident.) so his trips to Starbucks came to an abrupt halt. He could've gone to a different one but the whole chain just seemed tainted to him. Laufey's coffee was out of the question. (Folger's? Really? Gross.)

With no coffee in his system, Loki slumped into his desk with a headache so horribly painful it had already made him vomit twice that morning. The only upside was that the pain helped block out the whispers and smirks around him.

He managed to get ten minutes into class before his hand shot up. “I need the restroom pass.”

Heimdall glared at him for interrupting, “Loki--”

“Or I could throw up here, your choice.” Not like his dignity could suffer any more.

“Just go,” Heimdall slammed a clipboard with a green sheet of paper on it on the edge of his desk and went back to lecturing.

Loki managed to make it to the bathroom before throwing up breakfast, but it was hardly a consolation. A day of stares and whispers was strangely more disconcerting than the outright insults he often faced on a daily basis. He wanted to go home. He felt sick and lethargic, and he hated everyone here and they felt the same.

Laufey had some strange notion of acceptance but Loki was under no illusions. There was nothing here for him among the Asgardians.

He finally emptied his body when the bathroom door opened. Loki entertained the notion of privacy until the other occupant knocked on his stall door, “Loki?”

“At some point you're going to be reported to the police for stalking--” Loki cut himself to vomit some more. “--and then everyone is going to know you're a creeper.”

Thor only knocked on the door again, “unlock the door.”

“Why?”

“I'll hold your hair back.”

“Why?”

“You shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth.”

Loki smirked and spit out the remaining bile in his mouth. “So you're a horse now?” His stomach clenched and he convulsed violently, but nothing came.

“I'm a gift horse, stop looking me in the mouth.” Thor sounded incredibly pleased at his comeback and it made Loki gag a little more.

“Fine, fine, just promise to shut up.” He reached blindly behind him and fumbled with the bolt until the door swung open. Loki felt his jaw numbing and the convulsions forced him over the toilet again. He felt Thor's fingers thread through his stringy hair, pulling it back away from his face. He only had a little bile to cough up and then he dry heaved for a few minutes.

Thor flushed the toilet for him. Loki leaned back on his heels, refusing to sit on a bathroom floor.

“Are you sick?”

Loki groaned, “that's a stupid question.” He leaned against the stall and pushed himself up. It was difficult to keep his balance, but he still batted away Thor's attempts to help. “I've got it,” he hissed, “you can leave now.”

He stumbled past Thor to the sinks. It was a relief to swish the water around and spit out what he could, but unfortunately it seemed some had gotten lodged in his sinuses. Loki winced at the sharp tang.

Thor hovered behind him. “Are you-”

“I'm quite sure I said you could leave.” Loki glared into the mirror, still scooping water into his mouth. He felt a streak of triumph when Thor's brow furrowed.

“I'm just trying to help. You don't have to constantly play the victim.”

Play the victim. Loki's hackles rose with indignation at the thought. But of course Thor would say that. Of course everything was Loki's fault and everyone else was just acting accordingly. “Fuck. Off.” He forced his voice monotone and turned to stare Thor in the eye.

Thor heaved a sigh and said, “I brought your phone.”

“Is that an admission?”

“No, but I did find out who took it.” Thor waved the slim phone in front of Loki's face until he snatched it away. “Lorelei Förtjuserska found it in the hallway...” He trailed off and Loki glared at him.

Loki slid the phone into his pocket. He was feeling a little less tired and with his new found energy he felt his temper flaring up again, especially when Thor began to fidget. “What?”

“There's-I looked at it...” He pursed his lips, “you have a picture of me.”

Loki shut his eyes and pressed his lips together in a groan. He'd been a bit too caught up in everything else to remember the little picture Darcy had taken at the football game. He supposed there wasn't much room for denial, he and Thor had already slept together after all. “And?” Then he didn't want to hear the response. Loki slipped past Thor and dashed into the hall.

He jogged weakly, slapping footsteps echoing loudly, until he was sure Thor wasn't following him. He had to get back to class.

Darcy was waiting for him on the sidewalk after school. Loki ducked his head and slipped through the crowd of whispering students. Thor had practice and was easily avoided, but there were various people who he'd rather avoid and an unfamiliar girl was more eye-catching that he'd like to risk.

“What are you doing here?” He muttered, brushing past her.

“We had a half day and I decided to find the guy who broke my heart.” Darcy had to jog to keep up with his long legged pace. She started panting quickly and said between breaths, “I'm parked on the street, I can give you a ride.”

Loki walked faster, “no thanks, I'm retaining water.”

“What, are you pregnant?” Darcy huffed and she reached out to grab his arm. However, it was unnecessary, because Loki froze mid-stride. “What's wrong?” she asked, but Loki didn't respond.

He stood there, frozen, blood draining from his face and an uncomfortable clamminess settling around his insides. “Darcy,” he whispered, “can you take me to the nearest store?”

“Uh, sure, why?”

“I need to get something.”

(Norns Gossip)
