What a beautiful and spirit-lifting speech that was one of the best closing speakers i have seen in a long time. if that did not raise the small hairs on the back of your neck or give you goosebumps, i don't know what will. now consider that the mood is all somber and heartbreaking before she speaks because this is a vigil for the victims. it is just amazing to see them all unite and cheer with smiles on their faces after a simple poem. LET's GO HOKIES!!
It's hard to not know what is going on in Virginia because it is on every single media outlet right now. The Virginia Tech Massacre is such a surreal experience considering i still currently am in school. this is something that does not cross my mind whenever i am in school so when it actually did happen at another university it's just surreal. 32 killed in what is the deadliest shooting in united states history is something that will be long remembered.
as i look back on my short lived life of 23 years there has been quite a lot that has happened already.
Now it is hard to ignore the fact that there are more Cho Seung-Hui type out there becasue of the way society and their peers treat them. in a society where personalities mesh and others clash a simple hello or a quick conversation with an aquaintance may make that persons day. it's easier said than done, if someone were to walk away from that counter with a good feeling that's awesome.
one of the most compelling stories i heard from this event is the professor a holocust survior who shielded himself at the door in order to protect his students from the gunmen from coming in. cho shot at the door and eventually killed the professor, but for him to sacrifice his life is just truly heroic! i mean a man who survived the tyranny of millions killed during the holocust and still have the strength and will power to keep going in life from over 60 years ago just amazes me.
i don't got much more to say as i have not been following the stories as much as i could be, but those were most of the main points that i have taken in this weeks events.
