The organization I work for asks its employees to participate in rallies and other activist-type events. To be honest, I didn't even know the word "activist" until 2 years after I started working here, that's how politically (un)aware I was-and still am, to an extent. A lot of my job is in online communications, and through setting up and proofing emails, I get the majority of my political news by osmosis. That's enough for me.
Today, I'm phone banking about the Virginia elections tomorrow. Someone in the office near my little area said, "You're a good person for doing this." Good? I wanted the free pizza. Mmmmm, evil deep dish pizza I never would have justified buying myself unless I was really cheating on my diet. I did that last weekend.
But, yeah, I could have gone home to study for my exam and they don't require me to be here, but phone banking isn't all that difficult. I also hate rallies and, well, anything I have to go somewhere for. Sitting on my butt at my desk, chomping pizza and making phone calls? Easy-peasy.
I do find myself hoping for voicemail-pickups the majority of the time, though.
