Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m is probably not the best time to elicit responses, but here goes anyways.
I'm looking for music, folks. And not just any music, music that probably very few on my friends' list can help me. I wouldn't mind being surprised though. The only stuff I like to listen to are soundtracks but I'm heartily tired of what I have now. Currently on tap:
- Battlestar Galactica, Season 1
- Last Exile OST 1 and 2
- Fullmetal Alchemist OST
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Children of Dune miniseries
- Final Fantasy concerto (orchestrated themes from various games)
- Bits of Danny Elfman
Out of desperation I’ll sometimes put in
- Star Wars: The Phantom Menace
- Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
- Last of the Mohicans
- Noir OST 1 and 2
- The Princess Bride
These latter ones I’ve played to so many times I almost can’t stand listening to them anymore.
I figure, instead of trying to find new soundtracks all the time, why not go to the source? Classical music. I’m a little particular, though, in that I don’t want any piano. Listening to piano is going to depress me mightily and I’d rather not go there yet. I don’t think my heart can handle anymore reminders of what might have been. Not this month, not this year. Talk to me in 2010.
I’m not quite sure about quartets or trios or small ensembles. I think I want big, bombastic, soundtrack quality from the classic guys but I don’t know where to even start. All I know is piano and not even that much from there. I also want to avoid the "typical" Beethoven stuff that's been heard all over the place. No pieces that have been commercialized through overuse in TV, commercials and movies.
If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears.
