You all seriously don't know what you're missing.

EK and I watched the Fullmetal Alchemist movie tonight with, I’m afraid to say, “crap speedsubs.” Bad grammar and some really awful translation that confused a lot of what is probably clearer with an endorsed subtitle.

However, I am here tonight not to talk about the movie, but to pimp the FMA series again. dr_rock, you especially pay attention here ( Read more... )

That's a damn good example, because I have tried to watch an episode of a few different series that I haven't yet seen on adult swim and that's exactly what it feels like. I'm not even sure why I try to because it always ends the same way, by me changing the chanel about 10 min. in because I have no idea what the hell is going on. I've never tagged anything as something I wouldn't like though because I know there is no way to get a feel for how the series would, so that's a plus.

I DO need to watch FMA soon. I'm getting kind of sick of everyone telling me how good it is and not having seen it myself.

This is off topic, but I started watching Masters of Horror last night. I only watched the first episode so far and I thought it was pretty damn good. If I remember correctly, you were less impressed with the next few episodes after 1. How has the rest of the series been? Did it pick back up or take a dive?

Ah ha! I wasn't sure if you were a D.C. person I know so I didn't know much else to say. Yes, please, watch FMA and insist on the subtitles. I think you'll find the themes a lot more subtle rather than watching them with the loud American script.

insist on the subtitles

Always. At least when possible and I do have the subtitled version of this.

It's funny, I just went through them, so I can tell you what was good. And believe it or not, I'

1. Incident on and off a Mountain Road: good
2. H.P. Lovecraft's something-or-other: bad but not as bad as some later.
3. Dance of the Dead: suckage
4. Jenifer: meh
5. Chocolate: meh
6. Homecoming: I liked it, even though the political message was totally overhanded. I happen to love the main actor (the boyfriend from The Closer). I... haven't looked up this IP address or know who this is, but if you're sympathetic to Bush and the war in Iraq, don't watch it.
7. Deer Woman: Hilarious, absolutely hilarious. EK and I were disappointed in 2-6 but 7 picked it back up. Okay, it's not falling on the ground funny, but I happen to like Brian Benben and he had some fantastic lines.
8. Cigarette Burns: It was good but too much a combination of The Ninth Gate and In the Mouth of Madness with not enough real payoff. It was okay ( ... )

Well, that shouldn't be a problem. I'm not sure how I would exactly say how I feel about that situation, but it's defintely not sympathetic. At least not towards Bush.

The Takashi Miike has been pulled from the air and will only be out on DVD

That is bullshit. At least it will be on the DVD.

Thanks for the nice and detailed comment. I was contemplating continuing this series or starting Twin Peaks and finishing this one later. I think for now I'll stick with this.
