Two weeks ago I went to Zoetermeer to view the new
RandstadRail vehicle mockup. Zoetermeer sure is a wacky town. The original village is now known as the Dorp neighbourhood, and most of the modern town is built around it in recent years. Not wanting to make the accessibility mistakes most modern cities suffer from they decided on some radical planological ideas like
a good network of connecting roads, most of the city centre elevated on massive poles to allow for parking and through traffic underneath and
a city-wide circular train line. I got to see the
vehicle mockup, then spent an hour trying to find a way out of town, but was thwarted by the fact none of the 11 stations in Zoetermeer have overnight guarded bike storage, something I've grown used to even in far smaller towns. Ended up cycling to the mostly deserted Zoetermeer East mainline station and leaving my bike there. Went back there two days later and
cycled home.
