They are commonly bred, yes. I do not think they are very common in the wild.

So where do you get them from?

I received this one from a friend. Some of the people here specialize in breeding, instead of training.

You can get various eggs from them. There are others that have them, occasionally.

I guess breeding's a big thing here then.

A safe guess to make. There is a group in Goldenrod City that specialize in it, not to mention the others.

I didn't know there were so many people doing it.

Yes, well. Not everyone likes the idea of sending them out to fight.

What do you do?

I am a trainer. My team does fight, but I do not force them to if they do not want to.

[All of her team really does kind of enjoy it, that she's seen.]

At least you're kind to them. It just feels too much like dog fighting to me.

[That's kinda literal in Ziva's case, what with her team full of dogs and/or vaguely canine-ish critters.]

If they enjoy it, I do not see the harm. It is a way to exercise their abilities, and they do learn from it.

Maybe, it just seems cruel.
