I'm getting into the habit of starting a new series every summer; I'm so glad that this year's is X-Files! And I really, really admire how brave Scully is. I can get spooked easily when I'm home alone as it gets darker, and seeing her grab her gun and check out the noise encourages me to suck it up, as pathetic as that may sound. Scully living alone and getting abducted several times and still working despite the risks is grade A, bad ass woman in my book. Total love for strong female characters!
I'm so glad that you could share your X-Files experience with a friend too! I still need to find a more fandom familiar friend to talk X-Files with but I'm still really appreciative of having at least one friend that can talk with me about the series.
Oh, Mulder and Scully. You're right: what they have is epic. They're independent, strong, able to trust one another, logical as hell and just gorgeous people. Sure, I want to see how the mythology episodes turn out but their relationship is just as interesting to watch. <3
What my friend basically advised was to ignore everything they told you prior to season six but that's kind of hard to do when they're, you know, KILLING PEOPLE OFF EVERY SEASON FINALE. A ton of confusion and drama still headed my way but I'm loving every second.
Ditto on Duchovny being such a natural at playing Hank Moody, who is so ~cool~ but such a dick. I don't associate Hank!Duchovny with Mulder at all because Duchovny's portrayal is so. spot. on. Kudos to him playing smart roles with smart writing. I'm a sucker for almost anything writer associated and you add in David Duchovny and I'm sold. I was the same with thinking Californication was a trope playing pimp of a show that was out to get in as many "your mom" jokes as possible. But it isn't (Most of the time. ;)) and I'm genuinely curious to see where Hank and his Heh-heh-Hell A life goes.
