051 - [VOICE POST] Electronics like to talk to Sam.
[There's a click as the communicator begins recording. For a moment, there's silence, then static, and a woman's voice, faint and from another time and place entirely, can be heard speaking from the communicator]
...Sam? Are you in there, Sam?
Sam...
[There's a sharp gasp, followed by a soft, tired groan, then the sound of rustling, somebody getting out of bed. A sigh. Then, after a pause, Sam speaks into the communicator. His voice sounds a bit distracted.]
I had the dream again. The one about the-- the ship... filled with the dead.
It's this case. Ever since the first... victim... I don't--
[He sighs, pauses, then continues. Yeah, he thinks he's just recording a note to himself]
Since these dreams started, every day... Every time I wake up, I look at that door and I wonder: when I step out, will I find myself home or... or in a strange corridor on a strange ship in the middle of nowhere?
God, that place... What does it all mean?
The dream-- this time-- it was about a man. And he was... as lost as I was, and then... There was so much blood. Not the worst crime scene I'd ever seen, but in this case, God, I felt like I knew him and it hurt... I--
I haven't felt this way since the accident...
[There's a pause, then Sam sounds distinctly perturbed]
Hang on, this isn't my tape--

[OOC: SO, here's the deal. Sam went home for about a month to solve a big multiple-murder case that he won't be divulging any details of, but he's clearly shaken by whatever happened. During that time, things were sort of as usual for him, except that he remembered bits and pieces of his time on the Barge-- specifically had dreams of Prefect and, in this case, Tobias killing Prefect-- but brushed them off as hallucinations. Sam does NOT have Barge amnesia, so he'll be remembering everything as soon as he gets his bearings again. Right now, his recollections are hazy and dreamlike, so he'll be a bit disoriented for a while.]
