...aka "the defining spirit or mood of a particular period of history as shown by the ideas and beliefs of the time." In other words, certain times have certain spirits to them. We're seeing this now, from Brexit to the appeal Trump has to many voters. Regardless of how you feel about either of those things or anything in between, there is a zeitgeist for our time.
In my opinion, that zeitgeist is "self-determination". I know, that sounds awfully high and mighty to those who think of Trump as a loudmouth braggart who appeals to a lowbrow voting base, but it is what it is. People are simply fed up with Government, ANY government, telling them how to live their lives.
A while back I posted that we have entered the same planetary/celestial alignment as the latter part of the 18th century. That was the time that gave us both the American and French revolutions, as well as a lot of unrest, wars, and strife. The spirit of the time was very simple: The old way is out, and people wanted a new way. Not everyone, of course, as the American Revolution was supported by no more than 40% of those living within the colonies, but the spirit still existed.
I am not seeing any difference in the spirit in the air now and the spirit then: The old ways wherein an elite ruling class (often in a place distant and removed from the "ruled") determines how and what people are allowed to do are coming to an end. Of course, those *of* that ruling class are not within the 40% which supports revolution, and in our country both the Republicans AND Democrats are the ruling class who care as little for the "ruled" as it appeared to the American colonists that King George did for them or King Louis and Marie Antoinette cared for the French citizenry.
It only remains to be seen whether the revolution that will come of our zeitgeist is American, French, or something entirely new. Just know it *is* happening...
something,
zeitgeist,
it's here
