Holy shit! What a session!
Didn't know what to expect since I forgot to send out the usual "who's gonna be here?" email today, but I needn't have worried! In addition to our assortment of players, Christy's Pub played host to a surprise retirement party that was nothing if not rowdy! The honoree's son paid glowing tribute to his Mom as a single mother who gave all to make sure "a shithead like me" (quoth he) grew up into a man. And the friends who gathered gave all in an epic party, fed by our music. Apparently Rita (said honoree) was in the pub a couple weeks back when I wasn't there and loved the stuff we did then, so she got more of the same...plus Yours Truly!
I had a hunch so I asked her if she remembered the tune "Iko Iko" to which she replied (and I quote) "Are you fucking kidding me?". As myself and one other player fed the beat with clapping to our two drummers, the ENTIRE BAR joined in the clapping, and did not need any encouragement to join us in the "Hey now!" bits :-D I actually forgot what else we played but the energy was truly astounding tonight, so much so that I might have myself another drop o' the pure just to try winding down here at home!
And on that note, I'm signing off and trying to get some sleep! I might post more in the near future becaus there was so much awesome packed into a few hours tonight...
