AO3 Writing Meme

Aug 24, 2021 22:15

Copied from dimity_blue, because it made me wonder and it looked like fun. And because it's been ages since I posted to my lj...

1) How many works do you have on AO3?
103, apparently. I really must get on with posting the others!

2) What’s your total AO3 word count?
562,983 words.

3) How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
Three fandoms with separate fics in their own right, but seven counting cross-overs.
Although I've just realised that A03 has divided my Pros fics into two - one group with the name of our fandom as it was, and the other with the name that Istia updated it to. How does that work? I assumed that if someone updated the name it would automatically update everyone's fics... if not, gargh, what a pain... And anyone doing a search by fandom would miss loads...

4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
One Not Far Distant Day - Charm of Magpies fandom
Altogether Your World - Dark is Rising fandom
The High-Up Singing and Alive Fruit - Pros fandom!
Never the Words They Say - Pros fandom
Just Enough Rope - Pros fandom

Interesting the way it works - I've been writing Pros since 2005 (wow, sixteen years this year!), but my theoretically most popular stories were both written in the last two years for Yuletide for completely different fandoms! Which of course isn't that odd, because most of my Pros fic is re-posted from somewhere else, and is also available in our Pros-dedicated archives as well as in the original lj posts where people commented on them, whereas the other two were straight-to-A03 stories. Or of course just no one really likes my Pros fic... *g*

5) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
Not often on AO3, because in my head it's an archive, not a forum for chat... But of course it's nice to say thank you for feedback, and I really should get my head around that better...

6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Blimey, there's a question... erm... maybe Never the Words They Say, because it's a more open ending. I'm not sure that any of mine have really angsty endings though. Unless I've forgotten one. Maybe someone else can say! *g*

7) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
Hmmn, I'm not sure mine have very unequally happy endings really either... Maybe Two Go Adventuring Again?

8) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?
I've written just a few... crazy in what way? Probably What Ho! Lads, because it was supposed to be silly. *g*

9) Have you ever received hate on a fic?
I've had the odd terse email feedback which just said "I didn't like this one", with no other information, but I wouldn't call that hate, just... a bit odd. Cos fair enough, but it wouldn't be the sort of thing I'd tell someone without explaining why! Hate has come at me in other ways in fandom than via my fic.

10) Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Define "smut", and the sense in which you're using it please... I always think there's a slightly censorius tone to that word...

11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of.

12) Have you ever had a fic translated?
Again, not that I'm aware of. How cool would that be! *g*

13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yup.

14) What’s your all time favorite ship?
You're reading my lj, do you really have to ask? *g*

15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Oh gosh, all of them at the moment, but I still want to, so I'm still hopeful...

16) What are your writing strengths?
Blimey, that's the horrible interview question isn't it... You tell me! *g*

17) What are your writing weaknesses?
I feel like I've been getting a bit repetitive... Oh, and the use of far too many ellipses... *g*

18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
Fine if there's a reason for it, but readers need to be able to understand it, preferably from the context, but if not then give them a translation please. Without those things - generally pretentious, and just leaves readers feeling peeved. Not what I'm usually going for!

19) What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Pros I think - all the way back in high school, although I didn't know I was writing fanfic then... *g*

20) What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
Erm... now you're asking... I don't think I've got a favourite... I was pleased with how the two Yuletide fics came out actually, and What Ho! Lads was fun, and I'm quite fond of my older lads stories... but to be honest it's been so long since I read most of my others that I can barely remember how much I like them or otherwise!

Ha, I was right. That was fun! *g* Anyone else fancy a go?
