A virtual office day

Jan 14, 2019 10:38

It feels like a virtual office day - which is another way of saying that I just can't seem to get going today... Here's what I have to do, which is actually more than a normal day's work, but I'm hoping will be a quicker job than usual, so will be doable, because I could do with invoicing for it! I'm allowed a break every ten pages - and I think I ( Read more... )

Read a chapter in your current book? Pages you don't have to do anything about?

Anyway, faffing IS a break.

Reading counts as faffing when it's in the middle of the day (unless it's lunchtime *g*), because I will do that any time, at the drop of a hat. You don't even need to drop the hat... *g*

What I really want to do is useful things in between breaks in work, cos otherwise it's really hard to get them done, and I feel a sense of achievement if I can get them done.

So I shall take your comment as a how-about-my-beta-then? reminder, and have a go at that when I'm allowed a break next. Trouble is, I still haven't got to page 20... What is it about today?!

If I were going to poke at you, I've got email. But yesterday, for instance, I did not do a single productive thing except mess about with my fog story, so faffing about is, like, a normal day for me.

Oh, I didn't think you were poking - I was taking it as an opportunity to poke myself, cos I'd also thought I'll do that this weekend and it didn't happen then either (I've no idea where yesterday went, to about 1.30pm!)

I don't mind faffing on a day off, but I'm working! This is me at work! I work from home, you see, and it's all online so there's no colleagues to gee you up. A few years ago I decided I'd come to the virtual office online at lj, where there might be people to nip in and out of a post saying hi etc., and that worked for a while. So I thought I'd try it again today as motivation to just get on with it. Luckily I don't have a deadline for tonight, but I really do need to get it done....

Faffing about with a story (yeay fog story!) sounds like bliss - enjoy!

Well I like your idea of inspiring images! :-) I hope your virtual office day isn't going too badly - bon courage! :-s

Work is going very badly indeed today... Luckily I don't have any actual deadlines (I bet it'd be better if I did!), but... I seem to be all out of energy - I could quite easily just go to bed for the whole day, which is very unlike me... I was hoping that lj might offer treats and rewards as incentives via break-suggestions, but that's not happened either. Argh!

Well, let's see if I can get to page 20 at least....

Hope you're not coming down with something? 'cause that does indeed sound unlike you, so I hope it's not the lurgi :-s

Oh, I really hope not - I do have deadlines later in the week! And the dentist up in Milton Keynes the week after that (I haven't found a new one yet, and I like her...) Maybe I'm just being lazy... (*she says hopefully*)

How're you doing today?

Are you all moved in, or could you use break time to empty out a box, or sort the books on a shelf, or something?

And how is the weather? Could you step outside for a short walk and rest your eyes on nature? Can't remember, if you have a garden, but it's at the edge of the village, right?

I've managed to unpack all the boxes, but there's lots of tidying and sorting out to be getting on with, and of course I could go out for a walk, and I've been meaning to ask landlord if he's happy for me to get on with clearing bits of the garden, or reading or family-treeing, or writing, or... there's so much I could do, but left to myself I tend to faff so long about what to do next for so long that I use up all my time. I thought perhaps Go and do that! suggestions might work better... E.g. Go and answer my email! which has been on my list since the minute I read it, and I was going to do immediately, and then got distracted as usual...

The weather was alright today, so I should have taken advantage, and I kept thinking about it, but I'm actually feeling a bit wiped out, so it didn't happen... I went for a run yesterday, and must go tomorrow... It's getting cold again after Wednesday though, apparently, so I'd better get on with that! And now it's just past 5pm, so it's basically dark... oh no, just checked - it is dark ( ... )

I'm way to late for your yesterday virtual office but how about knitting? Or crocheting? I'm trying to crochet sponges at the moment. There is a special yarn for it and beautiful patterns. It distracts great from everything and is made fast. Maybe that could be an idea for you. It is something productiv that you can see and grab afterwards. :-)
