366 Photos - 140/366 - an Adventure in Time and Space and the City!

Bit more awake now - I could barely keep my eyes open last night, and there was faffing about getting in touch with my brother too (couldn't). So - some photos, first of all! There's... um... quite a number beneath the cut...

Started the day in the bay - where Ianto's shrine doesn't seem to have faded away yet!

Wandered my way over to the Doctor Who Experience, which has moved since I was here last, and become massive. Excellent fun though - you actually go on an adventure with the Doctor which is space-monster-y fun, and then up through the exhibition (no pics of the adventure allowed so that it stays a surprise for people *g*). Lots of fab stuff to look at after though.

Definitely worth it, if you have any fond memories of DW at all! (I must admit I had to look away from all the Clara gunk, but there was lots of other stuff to look at. *g*)

Then I wandered around to the Cardiff Barrage, which keeps all the water in the bay. Paused at a Scott of the Antarctic exhibition, cos I'd forgotten (if I'd consciously known) that he left from Cardiff), and gazed out across the water to England!

I'd done lots of walking by then, so I treated myself to a waterbus back to the bay - which actually turned out to be giving a cruise for a bunch of schoolkids, so we went the long way, around the marina! Got back eventually though...

...paused for an ice cream and got on another waterbus that took me to the city centre! How cool is that! Went under this bridge, and manage to catch a row of tunnels disappearing mysteriously into the depths...

The boat stopped at Bute Park, which was nice - I had a wander through, and saw the Gorsedd Stones that I've admired on Llywela's lj before. And squirrels! Speedy squirrels... *g*

I paused for tea at Mrs Pettigrew's, overlooking the leafy park, and had a savoury cream tea - herby cheese scones with chilli jam and cream cheese - very nice!

Then to the castle! I've not been in before, so I decided to do the guided tour, and there were only two of us, so that was even better. Much gorgousness...

Monkeys everywhere! The first one here is a button to call the servants

- and the second is because Sir didn't approve of Charles Darwin, but if it means there are books in the carvings, then I don't mind! *g*

Up to look at the keep - and up, up the motte and keep to look out from it!

The the opposite - I found the wartime "tunnels" that were used as air raid shelters in the war - hugely long they were...

And this is the first stretch of corridor, but on top...

Quick wander through town after this, and then walked back to the YHA. A very different kind of hostelling experience tonight...

...at the same YHA, but for a treat I booked a single room. Don't know whether they did it on purpose, but this is the one they gave me! It's "premium double", apparently - rather lush, and even for a fancy room in a YHA it's still fancier than I would have expected! The perfect place to collapse with legs that weren't working any more, anyway!

The only grump I had yesterday was when I got a text from my brother (in Australia, via his Manx phone!) saying "oh, before he forgets, could I please bring mum's birth certificate up with me" - which of course I should have thought of myself but didn't, and now I'm going to spend the next three hours driving back home to collect it and coming back - argh!

No internet at tonight's YHA, I don't think, but I'll take photos... *g*
