A Cornish Guide to a Girl on Holiday - Day One

May 17, 2015 22:07

And I'm awaaaaaaay! I finished my work last night, slept in this morning, had a leisurely getting-myself-sorted-out kind of morning, including phoning my mum who's currently a very-happy-grandma-for-the-second-time. It only took me three hours to drive down too - that's practically a day trip, that is... but I have three nights around Cornwall - hurrah! And it's not raining yet... *g*

I got to Penzance before check-in time, so drive down to see what was what... and ended up going through, and found myself in Mousehole, which was looking perfectly pretty, so I parked up and went for a wander... *g* I love the wildflowers everywhere, like these nasturtiums-by-the-sea! Cornwall is so pretty in the spring...

If you click through you can read that story - the oldest house in Mousehole, 1300s, involved in defending Mousehole against the Spanish in the 1500s!

I sat by the harbour and had an ice cream (of course - but they'd run out of Turkish Delight - waaah! The quest continues!)

And then I wandered back to the carpark along the rocky shoreline.

And off on a quest to find the YHA! Which I'd already tried to do once, and come to a bollarded dead end (literally, that's not me swearing *g*) So this time I went to where I thought I'd seen a sign, rather than following the directions I had, and sure enough, up a wee road clustered around with snowdrops (gosh, still?), there it was. And what I'd forgotten?

That it was so inexpensive here, that I'd booked myself a private room! I'm sharing the rest of the time, which is usually nice, cos of meeting people, but I'll appreciate my own peace and quiet for the first night, I think... *g* And I have a bell! Well, if I stretch out the window... *g* I wonder who it'd summon if I rang it...? *g*

I was a very good girl and brought my Riverford Recipe leftovers (an aubergine thingie that was very nice - I swear I'll post properly about these) and then, having been cooped up in the car for three hours, and at my desk for many months, I went for a stroll down towards town...

...out of the snowdropped YHA, past fields of flowers and banks of bluebells...

... past waterfalls...

...and colour-bounded streams...

...past old old pubs (The Pirate - 1674)...

...and buttercupped meadows (and that tree was just glowing in the sunshine, as you see!)

Past magical steps... imagine going home up them, every night...

(or perhaps home isn't where they lead... *g*)

And finally I came out at Wherry - by the Aldi, and a wee stoney beach with an outpipe. Oh well! *g*

But there was a view over to St Michael's Mount, and chaps fishing, so it wasn't all bad.

The back up... and up... and up... to my wee home for the night. One of the few areas with wifi (oh, but what good, fast wifi!) happened to be this one, so... *g*

Bliss - I can be online, on my computer, and not doing work! Hello lovely lj! *g*

And while I'm here - I've been meaning to have a boast about this for ages. Look what gorgeousness I have for a phone case!

See the lads! D'you remember I won a prize at Christmas for a caption context in Dialj? Well I'd been lucky enough to draw milomaus for one of my ProsFandomCard people too, and so already received her lovely Pros-y Christmas treats - and what did she do? Made me this phone case instead! Every time I look at it I think how clever she was to have stitched the lads so that they look so beautifully themselves... *g* And it fits my phone perfectly!

Right - have now rambled my way through a glass of wine, and should perhaps take myself upstairs and towards my bed... I just hope the mattress isn't as hard as YHA mattresses usually are - my only complaint about YHA! If I'm ever a millionaire, I shall donate soft mattresses for every YHA bed in the UK...
