Mixed Weekend...

Jul 19, 2010 13:22

Stuffety-stuff... last week turned out to be more hectic than I was expecting - hadn't finished marking etc after all until about 9pm Friday night - though hooray, now I'm finished - mopping up and all! *g* - and when I woke up on Saturday morning it was with a yucky headache that refused to go away all weekend until nearly the end... It turned out to be all ups and downs this weekend too - didn't get to go on my Stearman flight for the third time, this time cos there'd been oil splurting up over the windscreen - can't be good! - but that was okay cos I thought I'd have a nice, historic-ish wander-ish National Trustish day to celebrate putting new tyres on Little Car. So I wandered, headache and all, up north-ish of me, through Fenland and off to Peckover Hall. Which I then couldn't find. Which was ridiculous, cos Wisbech isn't that big a town - though it didn't help that there were roadworks in the city centre. So I went off and found this place instead...

Which was quite cool, especially as I got to wiggle my way down into (and even more happily up back out of) the priest's hole! It was very wiggly, and you'd have to be much littler than I am to do it in a hurry - plus, of course, you had to wade through the garderobe to get there... The house was very smart in general (although I wish parents would tell their kids not to shout indoors! Since when did that become okay? Grrrr), and the NT volunteers had some great stories too - I love it when they're genuinely keen and knowledgeable rather than just sitting there doing their job...

But Sunday was the best day, even though woke up with the same headache - gargh! Not fair on my first free weekend for a month! Still - off I went to London, for Pros-y chat and excited squee about seeing two tall and rather good-looking versions of these blokes buying their sandwiches in Pret - complete with thigh straps and guns...

And they were tall. And quite handsome. And when we paused at the cashpoint around the corner they were sitting there in their van eating their sandwiches and having a little chat and a wee laugh! And did I mention the thigh straps? *g*

(Actually I've seen these guys around before, but in Manchester, and had a similar reaction in my lj May 2006, in Manchester (and hee - that time I was in Starbucks):
The oh my bit - um - cop-type bloke just walked in with a handgun strapped to his knee and summat that looks like another one at his hip and... nice looking bloke actually *she types surreptitiously* but, um, since when did our blokes wear arms? I mean, he's no bobby, that's for sure, but he's got the word Police written on his shirt, and his rt thing there, and a pair of handcuffs tucked into his padded (bulletproof?) vest. Oh my. Excuse me while I swoon. Okay. He's gone now. I mean... ohmigods! Not so much when I think about the whole control-you kit he had on (handcuffs were very prominently displayed)... although on the other hand... *pauses to dream think* Just ohmigod!!! I have never before seen that wandering around our streets in daylight, and he walks into Starbucks all kitted up, cool as you please! Is this common now? Have I been away from the city so long I didn't see it happen? WTF?!! 'Course I'm not far from Booth Street here, is there still a station there? Is it some sort of new instant-action force that I don't yet know about? Was he just coming on duty, or did he pop out on his lunchbreak... Just... What's going on? Who was that man? And how can I meet him socially... *g*)

Anyway, from there we wandered London a little,

[pics to follow when I get home!]

and the best bit - the bit that I actually, finally lost my headache for - was this bit:

Seeing Mixed Doubles on the big screen at the BFI! There's a Brian Clemens season on at the moment, and although we had to sit through The New Avengers (Nazis disguised as monks on a remote Scottish Island, trying to revive "Germany's greatest treasure", who's been cryogenically frozen...) first it was so worth it - Mixed Doubles lads on the big screen! Just... squee! *g* It's amazing what you see that's new, when it's so big too - in this scene...

...you can totally see Bodie's feet kicking around on the other side of Doyle! He's taken his shoes off, but he's still got his socks on... awwww... *g* I've totally decided that what we need to do is get hold of one of those giant screen thingies and watch the eps properly in huge-size... *sighs happily*
(Screencaps pinched from sunray45 - thank you! *g*)

And I drove home totally headache free! *g*

What else... oh, and this week the other glee begins too - this glee...

MS on stage in Windsor - yeay!

Aaaand... stuff. You know, I'm not sure what to do with myself now that marking's finished and I'm back on one not-busy job at a time... just... hmmmn! Mind you, there's always my Discovered Whilst Camping fic to write - the lads and a campfire... I've actually got an idea for it and all... in fact two ideas... Wonder if I can actually write either of them? Eeep! I need to get back into writing properly... like I did for NaNoWriMo - every day! I did it then, I can do it now - right?

Right... but also dayjob work... back to it...

pros eps, pros, pros gatherings, wanderings - london
