Pros-y history continued - a new thread!

Oct 16, 2009 13:05

There is much, much fabulous information and many gorgeous stories here at the original thread but as we're concertina-ing like mad, I thought I'd make a new post, with lots of the information added into the post itself. I'm still adding it - though I'm about to escape for the day and head south to Windsor, to see MS on stage tonight - wheeeee - ( Read more... )

Should I add the Pros Trips (Paul's ones?) or are we just on fic?

*pops in from B&B in Windsor* - wheee free wifi!

Yes, definitely! Not just on fic at all - or even slash fandom (though I'll probably be thinking mainly of that and will need nudging occasionally!) Paul's trips should go on, they're Pros fandom! *g*

I hope I haven't just put my foot in it - I should totally have asked you before doing this, and of course I only thought of that just as I pressed "enter" - I've just mentioned your idea of collating fandom history info on a site where I hope Sebastian might possibly comment, so hopefully there might be some info from there. I really apologise for not checking with you first, though! I hope it's all right?

You mean over at her forum? I've not been there for ages! No worries at all! Did you include the link? It'd be nice if she came over here to comment - I'm open to anonymous posts! It'd be fab to hear from her! *g*

Right, hope she decides to drop in and comment - it would be great to hear all about everything happening at the different stages of fandom history!

I went over to her place instead, and you've probably seen now that she commented there with her memories, so I've added them to the history so far! This is all going so brilliantly! Thanks very much for mentioning this, I probably would never have thought to ask her unless you had! And I've included a link to Foxhole on the Roof in the Fandom History too!

Hatstand Archive Opened Sept 2003 taverymate October 16 2009, 19:15:01 UTC
Lovely to check-in on LJ and see the Pros History posts. I'll have to root through things for dates and info.

Assuming that the Hatstand info place marker got slotted into 1996 by mistake, since you say that it wasn't started until around 2004?

The Hatstand Archive was open by Sept 2003 according to info I have. I've a Proslib email (9-26-03) announcing the opening and I've saved stories from late Sept 2003 and have Hatstand update pages from Oct 1, 2003.

Regarding the Hatstand info - and Pros fandom in general - you really should check with P. as she'll have an enormous amount of info and dates too, 'cause she's an inveterate list-maker, something I give thanks for often. *g*

Excellent - thank you! All I remembered was that Hatstand was founded sometime after Circuit Archive fell into it's hiatus, so I went with earlier rather than later - but 2003 is good to know! I've been hoping P would see this and chime in with some of her wonderful knowledge, though I think she's over at DW mostly these days... I shall add your date in tomorrow (I'm just back from seeing MS on stage!) and hopefully hear from P at some stage!

I've added in your date corrections for Hatstand - thank you! Oh, and I originally slotted it in at 1996, though I knew it wasn't anything like that early, because all I did know was that it started after Meri started Circuit Archive, and before Justacat took it over! I was hoping someone would be able to slot in the correct info! *g*

Still hoping to hear from P at some stage - when I get a chance I'll start writing individually to people too, perhaps! Thanks again!

I'm so thrilled you're doing this. I've been too busy with RL the past few days, but will be really interested to read all the contributions.

Pros + historical research = love!

Recently I came acros this post from 2008 by metabolick about "Weekend in the Country III":

(but maybe you're deliberately not naming the hotel?)
Made me think it would be fun to re-enact it by having a Pros-y get-together at the hotel sometime.

Just had a look at this. The Pros backgrounds quoted were digests of the work lil_shepherd and I did in 1982/3 analysing what is said onscreen about the lads. The 'long version' runs to 10 closely typed pages (with another two on 'why Operation Suzie and Wild Justice do not fit canon').

I'm about to scan and post the whole lot (probably on my IJ - though if there's somewhere that anyone would like me to post this (lj user="the_safehouse">?) do let me know!

Most of the con attendees stayed at the hotel - but we had the use of separate (pre-fab) building which had a TV lounge so we could run episodes on video (and stop them where necessary for 'study' purposes), and have round-table discussions and writing workshops.

I was wondering how you managed to watch eps and hold discussions in a hotel, without getting some very odd looks or being extremely cramped in one room. Thanks!

Please do post "the whole lot" - I'd say at The Safehouse (but I'm not a mod). *g*

Ooh, looking forward to your post - and yes, please do post to one of the comms, or both - the_safehouse and ci5hq! (I'm only a mod at the latter, but since they're communities I reckon we can request whatever we'd like to see there as members! *g*)
