Well it looks like Gov. Strickland is bound and determined to make these cuts!
I pray it doesn't happen.
The library site is supposed to have a link to sign a petition- only- it doesn't work!!!!

Legislators Need to Hear From Library Users and Supporters
URGENT! In a statement released on Friday, June 26, Gov. Strickland announced that, despite thousands of calls and emails, he plans to stand by the cuts he proposed last week. These cuts would mean a loss of more than $7 million in the next year and a half for the Dayton Metro Library. These come on top of a $4 million cut already received this year. The impact would be devastating, resulting in greatly reduced hours, a deep drop in services and a huge cut in the number of books and materials available. Branch closings are possible.
In this tough economy, every state funded agency will have to endure some loss of funding. The Dayton Metro Library has already absorbed huge cuts at a time when there is record setting use of the library. The burden of balancing the budget must not fall disproportionately on public libraries when so many families and job seekers are relying on library services more than ever.
The cuts have to be approved by the Conference Committee of the House and Senate. They have the authority to approve or reject Gov. Strickland's proposed budget and will be making decisions over the next few days. Please contact the members of the Conference Committee to express your thoughts about cuts to library funding.
