Today I met the dentist for the first time. He looked at my two year old x-rays and gave me an estimate of how much it would cost and told me that it need not last longer than an hour. And sinceI have had my wisdom teeth growing and holding my other teeth down like a vice for over a year I was pretty much ready to get rid of it at any time/cost/ ( Read more... )

You may or may not know that llamas have NO upper front teeth. They use their lips like fingers but their only chewing capacity is on their back molars.

Not to disillusion you but don't try to bank on selling llama fiber to get rich. llamas have long guard hairs that have to be pulled out by hand when the fiber is spun into yarn. If you don't get them out, the yarn will be like the proverbial hair shirt and itchy. For this reason, llama wool is only used by hobbyiest and not harvested commercially. Alpaca's on the other hand, which are a cross with sheep, have no guard hairs and their wool can be processed. Most of it is sold unprocessed (not carded or combed) to co-ops in South American who make goods and ship it back to the US as "value added."

As you can see, I like to enlighten others to the magic of this wonderful animal. The best guard llamas are herd-shire males as a breeding male becomes very agressive and territorial. As they have no teeth, their main function as a guard is to intimidate and scare away small predators. Their own defense amounts to "spit and run". If a llama has been raised with other llamas and knows it is a llama, they will not spit at humans. There they get all the bad publicity for this is because they are taken away from herds and humans are their main contact. When their hormones come in, they then see all humans as competitors and they are spitting trying to establish themselves in rank. These llamas are called "berserks" and most of then are put down as they are rejected by other llamas and unpleasant to be around.

And, now the real secret of llamas will be revealed. They hold a unique role in the animal kingdom as spiritual guardians. Mammals, including humans have round blood platelets with NO nucleus BUT, llamas have oval blood platelets WITH a nucleus, the SAME AS A BIRD, They are sensitive to the magnetic energy field of all those around them. Unlike camels, horses and elephants, they have never been used in wars and basically, they are not in the food chain. They are guardian spirits, like dolphins and given the right circumstances will communicate at the intuitive level.

So, when you do find a llama friend, treat them with utmost respect. Don't expect them to be cuddly and affectionate as they are more like cats. They even walk like cats (same, same, not opposite, opposite like a horse or cow) If they come to you, it is an honor.
So, that is the rest of the story.
