I love that the DOT figured out what motivates people. There was a school zone sign at the crosswalk near my house, which, for a long time, had the standard "CHILDREN PRESENT WHEN LIGHTS FLASHING" notation. However, it was recently changed from "CHILDREN PRESENT" to "FINES HIGHER". That makes sense. "Children present! Pffft. Little bastards should know to keep outta my way! Hell, their young bones are flexible, anyway," versus, "Fines higher! Crap. Gotta slow down. Already had two citations this year."

As long as it works, I guess.
