Return to White River Falls State Park

Dec 29, 2022 21:01

Several years ago now Marisa and I visited White River Falls State Park in the Tygh Valley, Oregon. We didn't venture far. I thought we couldn't. There was a sign that said I shouldn't.

However, the sign is deprecated: it was meant for the era when the hydroelectric generating facilities were active. In fact, I learned to-day that if you hike down to the river you can find the generator building and even go in there!

So, I will go back.

I made a comment on the bacefook group "Abandoned Oregon" to check whether the generator building is in the park, but the administrator slapped me down. They have this weird rule about not inquiring about places if the person who posted the photo doesn't say. In this case the person said where it was in a general way, so I felt it ok to ask specifically. Weird rules, bad group--I am not interested now and left the group.

That post did indeed help me confirm that I missed seeing the hydro station.

Others take pictures there and the trail leads right to it.
