* Working in the basement.
--This morning I brought down one side of the table top from the 1950s table we got from Betty. The rest I pulled up before I finished at 5 p.m.
--Swept up styrofoam peanuts that were on the floor at the back. Went into a garbage bag I brought down.
--Moved boxes off the floor by the door to existing stacks. There are now fairly clear passages except the middle passage to the electric panel is blocked by the parts of the futon frame. Also my wood chipper has to be moved around to get through. I need to continue to work to open up all passages!
--Brought up some stray LP box cardboard filler. Unused cardboard will be recycled!
--Brought up a partial bag of cat litter.
--Brought up a box of cassettes.
--Brought down a box of books and stowed.
* The alley garbage can is a success. The folks congregating back there have used it and the alley has no garbage! I was hoping that if they saw a can they would use it instead of simply dropping on the ground. I will still need to grade the area along the fence and create a birm from Byron Hill 2.
* A NeilKelly representative was supposed to meet with the city yesterday regarding the permit process for the Backroom Project. I won't bother to ask immediately about the outcome.
* received nice card and loan repayment check to-day. I cashed around noon to-day and withdrew the usual $200 for groceries. Marisa went to Freddies to get a few things.
* Minor projects:
--Fix table lamp.
--Fix flying saucer lamp.
--Remove paint from current gooseneck lamp on desk, clean base, polish gooseneck, possibly repaint or fill where scratched beige paint reveals red paint underneath.
--Fix Mom's touch lamp.
--Set up television in basement.
--Find and create frames for inserts. It is very costly to buy new materials, but I think I could buy used frames and plexiglass and cut to size by haunting the as-is thrift stores.
--store hardware in an organized way.
--fix Betty's tables and chairs.
* I am convinced I can fix the problems in our front driveway. I can do in stages.
--dip on right tread first. That is fairly predictable.
--dip on left tread 2nd. Here the pavers are very strange. Possibly the catalpa roots are causing a problem?
--replace gravel with dirt and ground cover plants...or with honeycom plastic and dirt. Retain gravel for rock project.
So where does this leave me on my short list:
DONE bring down table parts to stow. (To-day)
WIP clean cat poo. 1st floor done. Carpet done. 2nd floor next.
WIP bring down boxes to stow and bring up Christmas stuff to put in the front room(several RTs) half-done. To-morrow done.
This evening? clean up area in Living room to make room for the tree. (To-day)
* make muffins. (To-morrow)
* Read of the death of Robert Dietsche. He wrote Jumptown and ran Django's record shop in Portland. In 2018 he was working on another book but not sure it was finished or published.
* A grand jury did not charge police with a crime when, last June, they shot and killed a Tigard Oregon man who fled from a traffic stop. Supposedly he was carrying a gun, so the police felt threatened. He was a person of color. He did not fire the gun or hold his ground and threaten to use the gun, but simply having the gun scared the police enough to murder him. Our laws need to change if that is what grand juries can decide. Given what I saw in the dashcam video both officers should have been asked to resign and also charged with manslaughter.
