I feel good about what I am doing, but progress is slow.
It was saturday night that I did this:
* re-stow drainage junctions and toss that box.
* clear the front room of all the boxes by moving them to the back room.
To-day I
* moved the remaining items in the front room into a group by the door.
* moved them some more when I realized I was meeting with Robert Engel of Ybarra
* pulled out a bunch of empty and small cardboard boxes to recycle.
* disassembled the boxes and put them in the recycle bin.
* swept the front room to remove dirt, rocks, styrofoam and a drill bit. Everything dumped in trash except the drill bit!
* pushed white and abused towels into a black plastic bag and put out the back for a later dump run.
* move the cowboy chair to the dining room to sit next to the green chair.
* move the safe to the front room.
* move the towel box to go on top of the safe.
* moved out the small table and put by the Morticia chair.
* moved boxes in the back room so Marisa can get to the washer and drier.
* kept boxes off the hatch.
* Met with Robert--he said it would cost $7,000 to redo our driveway. I told him I probably would contact him again about the estimate in a couple of years. Actually, the word is never.
Let's say it takes six men 20 hours to do the following:
* remove the pavers.
* put down additional base and tamp down.
* put back the pavers.
* add plastic things to hold pavers in place.
* pressure wash.
* add sand.
Let's also say they are paid $50/hour.
50 * 6 * 20 = 300 * 20 = $6000.
Add in some cut for Ybarra, so: $7000.
So it is reasonable if it really takes six workers 20 hours to do this. However, I think this could be cut to just three workers and probably not as much as $50/hour.
I would rather try doing this myself first. If it doesn't work, I will work with Ybarra. It could take me 120 hours or a good part of three month's weekends, but in the end it should work and will only cost me $100 in extra sand or gravel with free labor.
Also wouldn't plan on doing the plastic things or removing all the pavers...just up to a certain point where I would level to that point. I might add the plastic things on the inside, gather up all that gravel and fill in with dirt.
I am going to stop there now that it is dark. I only did a third of what I thought I could imagine doing. Oh well.
