My email issue was resolved to-day. Apparently email addressed to byron@zolacmedia.com does come to the server but the pop account for zolacmedia.com does not translate to the correct server location. This used to work, but no longer.
We had to change the email server to hubris.
They will eventually move to using a microsoft 365 server with oauth2 security which my email client does not have, at least as released. Once they move to that server, I will see if I can add what is needed to get Eudora working, however I've installed Thunderbird which John at Pile Us says should work.
They did give me access to the web portal, so that works now!
Still need to get FileZilla working with the web content, so I filed a ticket on that.
Also Marisa tells me that her email doesn't work and she hadn't properly transferred all of her accounts to the other email she uses, so I filed a ticket on her behalf.
To-day I worked in the back yard. I cut branches from both trees. Started using the new sawzall (reciprocating saw) which works fine for branches 1-2 inches in diameter. I found that slowing down and then going faster, instead of just going faster, helped. This is because it gives the blade a chance to bite into the wood.
The blade is longer than 2 inches, but not very tall, so once it gets inside the object it could have problems. I discovered this with a 3.5 inch diameter branch. Ended up twisting the blade!
I was smart in that I first used the clippper to remove smaller branches, then used the sawzall on the half-inch to two-inch branches, working my way up in size. This 3.5 inch branch was probably the last one I would do on the weed tree. I finished it off with a manual saw.
For the evergreen I lopped off the lower part of the branches.
In general, the space on the rear drive way is much more open than before. Some additional trimming may be needed and I want to cut back the branches on the evergreen with the sawzall. My eventual goal, particularly on the evergreen, is to cut back the branches to the ring on the trunk so the tree can heal around the cut.
The House Select Committee on the insurrection met again for a couple of hours and heard about Trump's attempt to bend the U.S. Department of Justice to do his bidding. As one pundit commented after the hearing, this series of hearing is making clear that Trump was attempting to do what dictators do in 3rd-rate countries: disregard laws and do anything to stay in power. Representative Cheney directed her comments at Republican voters to convince them that Trump trusted no one and that they, as his supporters, should no longer trust him.
Finally I am not actively bidding or even considering bidding on items on Ebay. For now I think it best for me not to do this, so I can concentrate on stuff I already have. There are several reasons that I should stop looking:
* Medical and insurance bills coming in.
* airplane ticket on credit card to pay for.
* one rather large ebay expense to pay for.
* emovieposter.com win to pay for.
* No other extra revenue sources coming in for two months.
* I have plenty of items for all of my projects but they need to be stored properly.
* For purposes of the projects should scan items, particularly Willis Vail negatives for which I do not have positive digital images (most other items I do have digital images).
The only potential loss is: items come up for auction which are extremely inexpensive and are essential to my work. If I am honest about this, and right now I am, this balance of requirements is not likely to happen.
I do worry that I will bid on items I run across. I will try not to search for items at all, but for some of my projects I use Ebay offerings to enhance my research (even though I don't bid). A primary example is that I use information about Liberace show 16mm films or Snaders to go into my databases.
After feeding the cats and lunch I will process recycling, compost and trash for to-morrow's pick-up. I will go to the grocery store to buy mushrooms so I can make macaroni and cheese.
Tonight: Star Trek (I am really impressed by all of the episodes so far on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds).
To-morrow: I reconnect our phone line and, if done early, move bricks.
0. remove tiles where the new box goes.
1. disconnect the phone line in the box to protect against low level electric shock.
2. unscrew the wires from the lightning arrestor in the basement.
3. pull the wire through the conduit to outside.
4. pull the siding around the corners (inside and outside corners).
5. unhook the box from the wood under the back room window and attach, temporarily, at some place on the just revealed siding on the north side of the main house (one screw, not all the way in).
6. use a ladder to disattach the turn where it is and re-attach to just over the box. There is another attach point to also remove further down.
7. measure and remove the conduit from the old hole.
8. drill the new hole for the conduit.
9. put the conduit in the new hole.
10. fish the wire back through the conduit in its new location.
11. adjust placement of the box so that the wire is long enough to reach the lightning arrester.
12. tighten the screws on the lightning arrestor and the box.
13. plug in the line and close the box.
14. test the phone.
15. fill the old hole.
16. secure the conduit and fill as needed.
Saturday: Finish moving bricks, prepare a spot for the rainbarrel, remove more tiles, continue cleaning the basement and front room.
Sunday: load up the recliner and make a dump run.
