Yesterday, Tuesday, was a disappointing day.
Started off well enough. I finished a utility macro with some additional information provided by a colleague, then I hardened a cshell script against potential failures: turned both into tickets so I could make sure they went into a later release.
Then I started adjusting some additional outputs. Made progress overall, but when I started trying to insert ansi color codes into cshell aliases it became very difficult.
I worked on it until around 7 p.m., then had to do my monthly.
Meanwhile I missed the opportunity to monitor some movie item auctions. Bidders overtook me on everything I was interested in except for one lobby card. I might have bid higher, but because I was not there to react I lost out.
To compensate I found some fixed price items on Ebay.
Finally got out of my office to get some dinner. Marisa was in bed. So I fixed an Amy's Mexican Bowl and watched Star Trek Voyager and an episode of Monk. Marisa woke up as I got into the Monk episode, then we watched a Muppet Show episode with Sandy Duncan before I went to bed.
This morning had a dream about Marisa and I attending a "murder mystery" event with a bunch of people our age. By comparison Marisa and I were svelte and youthful and they all resembled Alfred Hitchcock (men and women)!
I read this morning that some $100,000 was forked over to a Catholic charities group to help the homeless and nothing was done for them with that large amount of money! Also see statistics for Covid-19. Despite everything done to encourage people to vaccinate, the omicron variant has made it difficult to show real progress against the pandemic. Also, the efforts to create real changes in government programs to benefit the lower and middle class have failed...and steps toward police accountability, racial equity, election integrity and immigration reform have not emerged. What is worse is that the number of Republicans in this country is now increasing. All of the progressive efforts are stymied by Republicans and Republican-lite Democrats...and anti-vaxxers, libertarians and the U.S. Supreme Court are holding back public health efforts. The media seems to weigh-in against President Biden when the real problem is an unbridled conservative news media and established Republican politicans.
All this said I am sad and frustrated, but do not feel defeated. It will be an uphill battle to rally Democrats to the polls and defeat defeatism without a central rallying figure in the next election. Even though the President is not the cause for our woes, he can only do so much when he is not on the ballot and those on the fence and the right blame his party.
