Bacefook banter

* I just discovered that the 1977 Medford Senior High Choir put out an album! I just purchased a copy of it. It will be nice to hear my fellow classmates performance after all these years! (I received the album to-day: this comment got many positive comments and people remembered all sorts of things about the choir, Lynn Sjolund...)
* I had a friend who bought a house and had the same problem (front porch sinking)...but she had it fixed. I think it must be possible to fix. Keep looking for someone else. I had to go through four or five so-called electrician pros before I found someone who would do the right thing to wire a switch to my overhead lamp junction. One suggested a pull cord, another said an infrared remote switch would do it. In general there are few "professionals" who want to preserve older homes and would rather tear them down and rebuild them. In one sense, I don't blame them. However, there are some who can work with us and innovate given the restriction of preservation.
* There needs to be a city program to help low-income home owners to maintain their property. If one exists is not well deployed. (regarding need for homeowners to fix their sidewalks).
* or Benedict Arnold (not Donald) it took almost two years after charges were filed until the actual court martial. Even then, he was given little more than a slap on the wrist and Congress wanted nothing to do with it. So these things can take time...and can still have little effect. In the course of history, though, Bendicts get their true comeuppance. (regarding Benedict Donald and Jan. 6, 2021).
* I do not wear a mask because I was required to do so but because it is the right thing to do, based on learnings about virus transmission.
* Cruz only eats waffles for breakfast. (regarding Sen. Ted Cruz and his position changes based on the lack of a spine).
* Substitute Winnie for Cthulu in a Lovecraft story...sort of like choosing the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man as The Destructor (about Winnie the Pooh and H.P. Lovecraft stories both becoming public domain this year).
* People are weird. (regarding some weird threatening behavior from a stranger at a bus stop) Yeah, probably high on something. Reminds me of an incident years ago when me and a friend were about to enter a bar. Some guy comes outside through the door and gut punches me. We didn't end up going inside.
* I've read a little about Henry Wallace. It is so sad how he was pushed aside. I think they made him VP to get him out of the way and it scared all the power elite to have him as a successor to the then ailing FDR going for a 4th term. How much better this country would have been if H.W. had gone on to become a president (not that Harry Truman was bad, only that Henry Wallace was more enlightened).
* ("I don't want to go through things that don't kill me but make me stronger anymore")I'm behind that statement, especially when it comes to cars. I don't want to have to deal with replacing lamps or batteries anymore. The car manufacturers made it so difficult for normal humans to do maintenance. My body is simply not as nimble as it once was.
* (regarding Trump's rise to power by being on The Apprentice and getting interviews with Larry King...) I also blame serious journalists who weren't putting out story after story about what a loser and failure he was before he conned voters to support him in 2016.
* (regarding Monkey Puzzle trees in Portland). I read the trees came from the Lewis and Clark Exposition of 1905. https://slabtowntours.com/.../fun-fact-26-the-seedlings.../
* Very nice (bungalow where front porch was re-opened). Gives me hope for our front porch (which also has its original rails and columns). All we will have to do is pull off the exterior and expose and repair as needed the original siding, put in insulation, etc. I am going to do the inside first before the final deconstruction.
* Yes! In the early 1970s KEX aired The Great Gildersleeve, The Life of Riley and Lum and Abner at night during the weekdays. I could hear it in Medford, Oregon (because KEX was on a clear channel). I still have cassette tapes of some of those broadcasts.

bacefook, memories
