Table, table pads and chairs

Jul 17, 2021 15:44

Marisa and I left at 9 a.m. and got to the address in Corvallis at 11:05 a.m. -- all as planned. We loaded the new-to-us Heywood Wakefield table, two extensions and six chairs. We put in the table first, feet down, then slid in the chairs under the table, stacking them in pairs, pad to pad. Two pairs went length-wise and one pair was width-wise at the end. We put in the two extensions and two pads at the end.

We are the 3rd owners of the table, having been owned for 20 years first by this resident of Corvallis who is moving, and then previously by some woman who filled her house with only Heywood Wakefield furniture. The person I bought it from took very good care of it and had custom pads made for the top of the table.

They were nice enough to help us get the table in the truck and assemble the chairs at the sidewalk. Marisa helped me fit in the chairs. We had two blankets on the bed of the pick-up and one covering the table, then put my blue tarp and bungee net over the whole thing with two bungees to hold in the tarp blanket to the table.

When finished with loading and securing, we got back on the road around 11:45 a.m.

The truck did well with and without the load. While still in Corvallis I once shifted up without fully pressing the clutch so ground the gears a bit. Other than that I drove well and stayed the speed limit.

We stopped at an Elmer's in Albany for lunch and drink (we needed the drink certainly after loading in the sunlight). For $37 (including tip) I had a Garden Fresh Sandwich (no meat but cheese, avocados and a boiled egg) with fries and Marisa had a strawberry lemonade with three crepes topped with ligonberry butter, and a side of sausage links and eggs.

This was our first meal out for at least 17 months thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Before leaving I readjusted the tarp, and bungies. Nothing shifted that we could tell, which means little or no furniture rubbing damage.

After Albany there was a slow-down between Salem and the Portland metro area. We saw a white car with a bent fender in a tow truck on the left side. Later, on the right side, two cars were on the shoulder. After the two cars traffic got back to normal.

All this under sunny skies.

Got back around 3:20 p.m.

Next challenge, maybe after a nap: clear the path to the dining room through the front porch, then unwrap the cargo and move it in.

The dining room will be full of tables and chairs, but I will spend all day Sunday opening up the back room and basement by re-organizing and throwing stuff into the truck for a dump run. I will find a time to do the dump run early next week.
