Yesterday was a strange, stressful day.
When I tried to start my work laptop for an 8 a.m. meeting it would not power-up. I had shut it down Thursday before the 4-day weekend.
I tried several times, then had breakfast and after that tried once more.
Not succeeding, I emailed my manager and got dressed.
No reply, so I checked for remedies on the internet. One solution said I should remove the battery. I couldn't tell where the battery was in this very thin laptop.
Another solution said I could push the power button and the mute button at the same time for 15 seconds. It worked! Certain buttons lit up. The computer soon booted and I was on my way.
Encouraged by this, while I was working, I decided to tackle the problem of my handheld computer. Several weeks ago I tried to start it and could not get in. I did not have the right password and the reset password routine did not work, either.
I did some online research on that as well. Turns out I did not understand how to answer the three security questions in the reset routine. This was complicated by the display on the handheld which hid the bottom two questions. I had been using the enter button after the first question without entering anything for the other two questions. Once I answered all three and then clicked enter...I got to reset my password!
At work I was asked to download some software to install. I checked off two files and then downloaded. That took an hour: came as a zipped archive file. Then I copied it to a work server location. That took several hours to complete.
It was around 6:30 p.m. before I could try the install, but I could not get to the two files in the archive!
So I started all over again, but this time transferred one file at a time. That process I was able to finish right before midnight. Success, but hard-earned. To-day I actually go through the installation process.
This download process left me unable to focus on my big project, so looked to other ones.
Also I would walk outside on occasion. Along the alley I saw the neighbor across the alley had hired a junk removal company to load up stuff. The driver apparently hit something causing damage to the truck. "Oh, there goes my paycheck!" he bemoaned. His co-worker said "Nah, that's why he has insurance. The insurance will cover it."
While they got on with their work I measured Mike, the last post in the newly built back fence: seven feet from the ground minus 2 1/4 inches for the new post cap. I extended my arm fully above my head to draw the line. When I do the work I will need a step or ladder. I am now ready to cut off the top of the post and add the post cap, then do the same thing on Edgar Allen, then draw a line between the bases of the caps for the pickets and cut those.
I hope to do this work next weekend.
Meanwhile I pulled some weeds on the back driveway. It is now due for a good sweep!
I had a good nap from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., made Chik'n Tenders (not chicken) and we watched Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and the third episode from Loki. I was definitely ready to go to sleep at midnight after completing the download.
