Coming down to the end of the 4-day Thanksgiving...and still have not caught up.
I did finish the dishes in the kitchen, then had to make dinner (Macaroni and Cheese) which we had planned would have accompanied a Star Wars film. Marisa was not up to it, so instead we watched two TCM films I had recorded earlier.
I went to bed around 1 a.m. and Marisa stayed up.
Also did a little sorting in the backroom and found the cat food bag and brought it into the kitchen.
Ran across two photos of Melville Thomas Wire painting a scene somewhere in Lake County. The seller wanted more than $4000 for them. Granted they are the only ones I have seen of the artist at work, but no way would I spring for them at that price.
They are part of a collection which apparently was once owned by Cuba Amick. Cuba was a popular and talented young lady from Lake County who want to Corvallis for college. Wire had just divorced his first wife and possibly was interested in Cuba: it is difficult to know for sure. By 1914 Wire married a Lakeview teacher in Lakeview...a marriage that would stick. There is a gap in my history of W.T. Wire between 1911 and 1914: I am not clear on how Wire came to be in Lakeview. He could be the "preacher" referred to by Cuba's friend or sister.
Alas, Cuba's history is not complete. She had two sisters: Ruth and Lula. Maybe she had a brother: difficult to tell. Unfortunately, Lula was the only one who left a record until her death. Cuba was the daughter (apparently) of Dexter Amick, a teacher. Dexter and his wife divorced, then re-married later: they ended up in Grants Pass I believe. Lula married a Mr. Ferguson and their son died in an auto accident...and in 1963 Ferguson, an important businessman in Fresno, California, also died in an accident along with Fresno's mayor. Lula sued and won her lawsuit of the truck their car struck. However, I did not find Lula's obituary.
It is all very fascinating, but have merely kept the information as reference for now.
To-day hope to move things around in the backroom and get busy. I doubt we will get as far as bringing up the tree but who knows.
