Was dressed and had breakfast around 10 a.m. to-day.
Left the house around 11 a.m. to withdraw grocery money. Then left again at 11:30 a.m. for my photo safari.
1. house deconstruction on side street across from 5340 N. Interstate Ave.
2. 5340 N. Interstate Ave. (1910)
3. Benson Polytechnic (1917) at 546 NE 12th.
4. flattened older building from Point West Credit Union (to become storage units).
5. 101 NE Miramar Place.
6. Sunnyside Masonic Lodge at SE 39th and SE Hawthorne.
7. 2115 SE Brooklyn.
I wanted to continue to SE Water and SE Salmon. I drove past it but there was no parking and with construction projects all around at mid-day it was a difficult situation. Also needed a biobreak.
Gave up, but found a Denny's as I went home (on NE Grand), so stopped there for a $12.87 lunch with $3 tip: mango smoothie, sauteed zucchini, mixed rice...and a biobreak. Whew! Then, home.
I was nervous driving most of the way: really worried about bicyclists and pedestrians. Well-controlled intersections are fine, but it is the stop sign intersection with no stops in the cross street...really difficult.
So three more stops in SW Portland and the SE Water and SE Hawthorne stop.
I may try early Sunday morning for those: maybe it will be less busy at 7 o'clock!
When I returned I got a call from the Progressive claims adjuster. The bicyclist which was knocked down by my truck on September 19 did file a claim. I am concerned about the damages. I was fine with paying out of pocket and not involving the insurance company, but now it is on the record. Sometime to-morrow he will get my statement:
"At 8:24 a.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, I was driving my truck south on North Vancouver Avenue in Portland, Oregon. I drove it across the southbound bicycle lane, turning west to get on North Ivy Street . A bicycle swerved to avoid the truck. That bicyclist yelled at me and I stopped the truck. Then, seeing that bicyclist had avoided the truck and that the truck was blocking the bike lane, I began to drive the truck through and out of the intersection onto North Ivy Street. I then heard that my truck hit something. I looked to the sound of the noise and a bicyclist and the bike were on the pavement a few feet from the front passenger side of the truck. I stopped the truck immediately then got out to see if the bicyclist was hurt. By now the bicyclist was standing at the intersection's southwest corner with the bike. I walked over and told the bicyclist that I was the driver of the truck which collided with the bike and that I would exchange information. At the time the bicyclist was talking with other bicyclists and reviewing the condition of the bike. I returned to the truck to drive it out of the intersection and to park on the side street, then got out again after parking and returned to exchange information with the bicyclist: still standing at the corner with the bike. The bicyclist, who was wearing a helmet, did not appear to be injured and I saw no apparent damage to the bicycle except possibly a misaligned fender. The bicyclist said that it was that way before the accident. The bicyclist did say she was concerned about possible damage to the handle controlling the brake calipers, but I saw no obvious misalignment or abrasions. I wrote down my name, address, phone number and Progressive policy number and gave that to the bicyclist. The bicyclist in turn provided me similar information: name and phone number. The bicyclist said to me that I was shaking and I have no doubt that was true: I have never driven a vehicle that had an accident with a bicycle. As it appeared there was nothing more I could do, I asked to be contacted if there was any need. I returned to my truck."
The adjuster did not set a time to record my statement, just to-morrow.
Marisa got back from "Adoration" and we talked, then I hacked some of the ugliest weeds in the back yard. I had seen Ulysses eating at the back so I went through the front door and grabbed a shovel and a pail. When I got to the back yard Ulysses was gone but the small female cat with the kittens was by the deck and meowed at me before scuttling under the ladder along the south fence.
