To-day after SET

Jan 24, 2015 19:30

SET ended around 2:40 p.m. when I got home. It was a little longer than I have planned and it started late. I hope to start it earlier next week.

I used the remaining very nice day to do the following:

* weed the area around my evergreen tree I have been growing from a seedling. It looks well but want no competition. Besides, it looks better without other plants in its "circle."
* swept the central walkway and sidewalk of leaves.
* broke up the soil where moles had surfaced. There were at least five such mounds on the park strip which I have annoyed me for weeks. Every weekend since they appeared it was rainy or I was involved in some other project.
* raked the leaves on the park strip into a mound around our fledgling tree. I hope it is doing ok. One of its branches was broken. Other branches had 1 inch black appendages which look like the tree's attempt to grow the branches that was halted. I hope it means the tree is not dead!
* removed little cloverleaf type plants growing on our retaining wall. Okay for them at the base of the wall, just not on the wall itself!
* cleared the filter on the north side gutter downspout.
* broke a few tall weeds from last year and put them in the compost container. The poke plants don't break: I will have to cut them or pull them.
* tried to use a wet-dry vacuum to slurp up leaves that fell into the basement window wells. It doesn't work: the leaves stuff up the hose. I will have to look for another way. I am determined to clean out these wells and clean the windows (on both sides) this year.
* started to fill my odds and ends can from the odds and ends I had been putting on the ledge. There may be more items there (it was dark by the time I did this), but most of what was left are river rocks which I should also move when light.

Observed that the bulb plants are starting to come out!
