Spent a few hours this afternoon cleaning the basement. Once I got started it was fine. I cleared out a good section leading to the power panel. Two boxes were selected for discard: they contained things I could use to-day and not require storage. Many boxes were dishes so they were moved to the dish sorting area. The path to the power panel is much improved and I removed a few boxes from the top of stacks allowing light from one bulb to reach more areas.
The area next to the door is still cramped, so will work on that Sunday. I was only able to find a few paper things to recycle. A lot of what is stored are magazines which I don't want to just throw away but can't donate them to a thrift store.
Also there are Star Trek collectible doubles, games, toys and various kitchen items.
I would like to keep the games, toys and kitchen items for a time when we have areas to display or use them. The doubles and magazines, of course, I would be interested in selling somehow.
By the way, the items that do not require storage: plastic lawn ornaments from Kansas and car stuff I used to carry in the Toyota including a much better set of battery cables (the ones I last used had cheap vinyl on the clamps which had cracked).
It is a blustery day with a wind warning. 58-thousand people in the Portland area are without power right now. Everything around our house seems to be holding up fine except the persimmon tree. I will have to investigate that to-morrow.
This evening Marisa is going to debut a new burlesque act. I am to be a set piece in it. For the part I have had to actually avoid using the shower and really don't like it, but hope to get through it. I will take a shower to-morrow and continue working the basement and back room.
Definitely have to box books in the bookcase between the television and the washer. That bookcase blocks the rolling cart where the switch is for the outside light. The electricians will need to access that.
Mixed news on the personal finances front. My company deposited a bonus for this past quarter. I totally forget about that! I have kept my credit card use to lower than $500. By the end of the period it should be close to $500 but not more than that. Don't feel deprived by that, either! Unfortunately I did not get my check in the mail soon enough or my bank did not clear the check as fast as the smaller checks which I sent out at the same time. In any case I forsee a fee for getting in my payment late and/or an interest fee on the balance of $2500! Next period I think I will send a token amount early and then the balance late to avoid the late payment fee.
My money market account still was not $3000 for the whole period so my bank zonked me another $14 fee. So that totals $28 for absolutely nothing (so far). This probably equals the amount I have earned in interest over the last two years, so I didn't lose anything...but I could have gained a little more if I had just kept my balance a little higher.
In any case, the money market account serves no purpose anymore, so on Monday, after I see my doctor for an annual physical, I will close it.
On Tuesday, while in Hillsboro for work, I will leave during the lunch hour to go to the Advantis bank and close that account.
