Clean-up almost complete, onto the stairs!

* Loaded the truck with carpet, carpet padding, nails, Styrofoam, bubble-wrap and Marisa's bowed kitchen rack.
* Wanted to take it to the dump but it is after hours. I covered the load and will carry it around tomorrow and Tuesday morning, then after my dentist's appointment will take it to the dump. This ends up saving a trip because the dump is right between our house and the dentist!
* Packed up all the stuff destined for the Goodwill and staged it on the front porch. I should be able to donate it Tuesday morning.
* With that look ahead to what is next for the upstairs hall and the stairway.
-- Purchased an old box of 22 brass dust corners. I need more than that, but these are in the original box and the price was very affordable.
-- Looking for rods to hold a rug as it goes through the stairs.
-- Looking for a small rug (28x58 inches ideally) to span the floor between bedrooms.
-- We may try refinishing needed areas of the exposed floor ourselves rather than contracting it. I will do some research. Contractors, according to K. ( my neighbor three doors down the street), would need all the furniture off the floor so as to so all the hall way to minimize the matches that will be necessary (in this case, it will be across the threshold to 3 rooms.
-- I am also thinking we might be able to replace that one fir piece at the one side of the room by ourselves.
-- I can add base molding myself. I notice that they installed carpet on the 1st floor without removing the original, so I have something to go on there.
-- I even think I can tackle the patch in that one spot under the bookshelves...eventually.
* doing the turn on the stairs is not particular difficult if you can get the carpet/rug to be cut and tied to match the turn. This, according to K., is a service you can order.
* so, the next move might be to do the stairs, especially if I have done the pre-work which is:
-- order a good, long-lasting, non-shedding, high quality, nice looking, carpet to go on the stairs that will make that turn and cover the landing and end with a fringe and could be pulled up (as if a rug).
-- get matching rods, finials and brackets for each stair step.
-- research into painting stairs...just in case the wood is not nice wood.
-- otherwise research finishing the wood (I want each stair step to look nice before the carpet is set down.
* once that is done I can proceed to rip out the carpet all the way down the stairs and remove all the staples.
* The daily weather is starting to have spots of warmth and dryness, so I believe I will wait to do the stairs carpet removal until next Fall or when I feel the outside is conquered, which ever comes first. The preparation has already started!
